Oldfield's latest take on his seminal work of the 1970s comes from the same family but is both more "up" and darker than its predecessors. A dance beat has been absorbed into many tracks (he was living on Ibiza at the time), mixed with the half - familiar arpeggios from Tubular Bells I - and it works. Many people who weren't even born when Tubular Bells I came out will like this, as well as fans of the original. But in the end it left me feeling incomplete - there is tension here that isn't resolved.
