I just rang my local music store to order my 'Light and Shade' cd and 'Exposed' dvd in advance and I asked the lady if there were any other MO dvds, just to confirm that I had everything. She mentioned a Warners 3 dvd set but said it did not state which dvds these were. I assume that these would be TBII, TBIII and the Millennium Bell but just wanted to ask if anyone had this set and am I correct? I already have these dvds as well as the 'Elements' dvd, but I was wondering if it included any extras. Are there any MO videos that still have to be converted to dvd? There was one called 'Wind Chimes' I think but I assume this is the same as the one released as 'Elements' with a bit extra. Was there ever an official video release of TB apart from that 27 minute version that I have?

Hi TubularBelle,

The DVD set in question I think you are refering to is : Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells 2 / Tubular Bells 3 / Millennium Bell / Tubular Bell Audio DVD. See this link for picture: 3 Box DVD

The other DVDs that I am aware are available at this time are the above in separate format and Elements (which contains The Wind Chimes).

There used to be the video 'The Essential Mike Oldfield' from the 1980 Knebworth concert, but I think this is wishful thinking for official DVD conversation anytime soon. And of course there is the elusive and eagerly awaited Live in Montreaux 1981 DVD. Plus as you said, coming soon, Exposed. Hope this helps.  :)

So would that TB 2003 Audio dvd be the same one that came with the TB 2003 cd. What is an Audio dvd, a dvd without pictures? It isn't a dvd then is it? When I bought TB 2003 it came with the dvd which has only non moving scenic pictures, would this be the same one? which means I already have it? I hate getting sucked into buying something that has nothing new on it.

Is there a release date for the Montreaux dvd yet?

Hello again,

I am not so sure about the 3 box set package but the enclosed link should tell you more about the TB2003 DVD Audio 5.1 as a stand-alone disc. TB2003 DVD Audio Please read the reviews further down the page on this link for more info.

It is a strange matter about the Montreaux DVD as the dates keep changing. I can offer this link to a netherlands company, but I can't read Dutch!  Live In Montreaux 1981

Also, for more information on Live In Montreaux, you can have a look at the forum board here: Live In Montreaux Forum

I hope this is not to confusing!  :)

The bonus DVD from the TB2003 CD was just a preview with a few tracks from the DTS version of the full DVD-Audio, which was released a few months later (which meant I had to get both...).
DVD-Audio is a new high-definition audio recording standard, allowing wider frequeny range and up to 6 channels (and intrinsic copy protection and watermarking), competing with Sony's SACD (and also requiring special equipped DVD players to make full use of it - very few players can read both SACD and DVD-Audio).
The DVD-Audio has all of TB2003 remixed into 5.1 channels in both full DVD-Audio resolution and also in DTS encoding for playback on normal DVD players, plus as bonus most of Mike's original TB demo tapes (slightly worn in parts), so probably not really something new on it, but instead something old really worth buying...

Thanks a_r_schulz, that's cleared up a few things for me too.  :)

The Wind Chimes video album included the videos that you can find in that section of the Elements DVD but also some old videos. All these old videos can be also found on Elements except Pictures In The Dark and Moonlight Shadow. TWC video featured edited (shortened) versions of these 2 videos, the Elements DVD include the full versions of both. IMHO having the Elements DVD is not worth to get a copy of TWC VHS/Laser disc except for collective purpuoses ;)

Having arrived into the 21st Century, I recieved the DVD box set as a birthday present.

The Audio DVD is TB2003, plus the 1971 Demos for Tubular Bells.  The DVD is worth getting for the 1971  Demos, if you haven't heard these. As they were recorded in 1971, complete with any dropouts, tape hiss :).  The demo's are so  raw and full of energy, did make me cry as they were so beautiful.  All this from a 17/18 year old, with a difficult childhood, what a genius.   :)  I can see Mike has made something positive out of  the negative.

Bloody Hell, this is not what I wanted to hear people. That means I have to buy the boxed set now even though I already have 2 of the dvds plus the edited version of the 3rd. I'm sure it is quite expensive too. Oh well, will have to start saving my pennies, I don't have a job atm so won't be easy. But I have to have everything. If only I'd known about this earlier, I could have bought the single TB2003 cd without the dvd and not bought the 2 dvds, (TBII and III are combined on one dvd) and saved a lot of money by buying this boxed set instead, grrrrrrrrrrrr. Is this purely a marketing decision, does Mike have any input into these 'lets sting em twice' arrangements?

Thanks for all the help. (not meant to sound sarcastic)

Well, Warner aren't making you buy the boxed set! It's good value if you don't have all the DVDs already, but if you do, you can buy the DVD-A separately, and save some money!

Oh Ok, I guess I will do that then, thanks. But that is not even listed and therefore not available in this country, will look into it.
