I just wanted to start a new topic incorporating some of the issues being talked about recently, also I wanted to address a lot of the negativity going about and getting some fans upset.

With Mike's 30th aniversary now here it looks like next to nothing is being done to celebrate this occasion and I was wondering what peoples views were towards this. It seems to me mind-blowingly strange that WEA, Virgin, Mike or his team or whoever is doing nothing about this. I'll give my personal views on a few issues, I'd be very interested to hear yours.

That TB 30th Aniversary boxed set.
Am I the only one to think this looks like a very badly put together blatant rip off??? This could have been very well done and not seemed like an utter blatant milking of our money. That 'extra' DVD could have been an amazing opertunity to put together something really special and truely insperational. The TB trilogy is almost like a movie trilogy, even Mike has said so, so why not treat this box set like a movie box set. That extra DVD could have included a much called for and much overdue MO documentary, it could have included all the out-takes that we know exist (the early stages stuff), the original demo with the infamous hoover bit, lots of cool photo's, you name it. It could also have included (and it may well do for all I know, but I have my doubts) an interesting booklet with photo's, bio etc like 'Boxed' did. Why isn't this sort of thoughtfull care and attention to detail utterly missing? There's no excuse I can think of, it wouldn't cost much to produce, there's much lesser artists than Mike bringing out stuff of this detail and quality so why not him? It's even more stange when you consider that if it had all these things it would actually probably get good reviews in the music press and therefore generate interest and therefore sell more copies which at the end of the day is what the record company and Mike want. Generating interest is what Mike's career badly needs, and to a certain degree its easily done so why isn't it happening???

It's been brought up by some fans that there isn't enough appreciation by other fans regarding what Mike brings out but I think its not got anything to do with what Mike does, I apprciate completely what he does good and bad, it's appreciating what WEA do that I have a problem with and I don't appreciate being ripped off. I already own TB2 and TB3 and I don't like the idea that my fanhood of MO is having the piss taken out of it with this boxset that a lot of fans will want to buy just because thay want to own everything. I don't know about anybody else but I'm boycotting it on the grounds that WEA are just treating us the fans with sheer contempt.
I fully realise there's the argument that it's not aimed at us fans it's aimed at the record buying public who don't already own the other two albums, but I doubt very much it'll sell in huge quantities beyond the fanbase. I don't know what the cost of it is yet but I'd be very suprised if it's anywhere near being reasonably priced.

ps Having just read the TB2003 reviews at DarkStar and hearing mention of Mike at some point releasing those Demo tapes it just hammers home even more what I was saying about what a missed oppertunity that box set is.

To WEA or any other record company for that matter we are no more then consumers. All they want is to sell us their products. It's just wishfull thinking they would want us to be happy ( ).

Marketing is nothing more then creating the right invironment, the right conditions for selling as much products as you can.
The only thing is you'll be able to sell more if people WANT to buy it.
In this case WEA would sell more if they would give us what WE want, not what they want to sell us.

This 30th aniversary IS a special occasion, and worth celebrating with a special release. But this box doesn't even come close.
It's what we've already got but now presented in a different giftwrap.

Thanks WEA.

very true..donus dvd with that content it has..that's not enough reason to buy this box set and get two same records most of us already have. this really shows how much record company cares..or this just is not aimed for true fans.

TB2003 can actually also come standalone with the bonus DVD so you don't have to buy the box set to get it. So I don't see a problem with the box set anymore (besides the fact that the DVD is a big let-down content-wise).

In a way it makes it worse because fans who buy everything for their collection ( and lets face it guys thats quite a few of us) will be proud owners of the crap DVD twice aswell as TB2 and TB3. So this box set has even less to have on offer than it did before.

You know there are artists and bands out there that have in the past vetoed  potential collectors item releases by their record companys on the grounds that they are quite simply judged to be a rip off and badly put together, The Cure did so a couple of years back to name but one.
