Yep I know Hoover is the make/brand name , but according to the Oxford English Dictionary hoover is a verb , def "to clean with a vacuum cleaner" as well as a noun (hoovers, hoovering, hoovered)
Quote | Dirk Star Posted on May 31 2008, 01:09A pedantic`s nightmare would be somebody stopping them in a supermarket. To tell them that they`ve just announced a hoover sale over the tannoy..
Many moons ago on my way home from a heavy night out on the pop.I decided to give up staggering home blindly and lay down in a back alley for a while. Not the most sensible of life options I`ll admit. But it was quite a warm summer`s night and I was way over the requisite three sheets to the wind.I woke up a good few hours later wondering why the hell my next door neighbour was doing the "hoovering" at such a ridiculous time of the morning.Only to find myself lying on a concrete step next to an electric generator station..."Oh yeah!..That`s right,..I`m an idiot!"
So anyway I`m curious now just what type of vaccum cleaner did Mike use?..And more to the point, has he auctioned it on ebay yet? |
That's an interesting story Dirk Star, I think maybe the weirdest place I've fallen asleep whilst drunk (many moons ago, was either on the bathroom floor, or I woke up to find myself fully clothed in the bath, a dry bath of course as it wasn't my intention to have a bath . Now I wonder what became of the Tubular Bells Demo hoover oh I mean vacuum cleaner , no doubt it's ended up in some council tip, as I don't think Mike realised how successful it would be, or the birth of e-bay.
Speaking of hoovers, no vacuum cleaners, here's some more solid reliable cleaning companions http://www.numatic.co.uk/products3.asp?r=4&sr=1 I see

Speaking of Hoovers, and these ones really are Hoovers , an 1970's catalouge for the Hoover Company of North Canton Ohio. Those cylinder round ones always make me think of "Flying Saucer" type of UFOs.
I know that a "Hoover Junior" had that drone sound http://www.74simon.co.uk/1346.html , as I remember my Mum had one up until about 1986. Surprised it's still possible to by spares for them, as I doubt there's many still working, or they're museum pieces, or collectors items, as they come up on e-bay.
