Hello!

My cousin gave this morning a CD with the name 3Lunas 2.
The track list is:

The earth spirit
Spirit dance
Snow cavern light
Redwings
Sprites
Solar system (I'm listening this one now and I know it...)
Requiem of the sky
Moonlight strool
Lunar jam
Joy ride
Thou art in heaven II
The origin
The journey
Landing
Underwater castle
Butterflies
Rebirth tunnel

I can't find noting like this in oficial discography.
Can you help me?

(If it is a basic question, sorry!...)

Thanks in advance
G

Nah, it's not a rip-off. It was compiled by a fan (who is a member of this very board) so that fans could listen to the music without having to play the game. All those songs are from Music VR, having some links to tracks on Tr3s Lunas: hence the name. But it's not an official release.

Bootlegs/etc are not ripoffs unless they are lousy and sold for a high price.

Brandon Blume, at your service. I made that compilation. It's a collection of themes from the Tr3s Lunas game that wasn't on the album. I made it for the people who don't have a PC and/or don't want to play the game to listen to the great music on there.

And hey if anyone who's affiliated with Mike Oldfield in any way, who has the authority, wants me to take it off the internet and stop distributing it I'll answer right away and do everything I can to stop it from being spread abroad. I've already stopped it from being sold on EBay. Believe me, I'm not one to do illegal things, which is why I'll get rid of it if they tell me to. Is it really illegal if they don't care?

Bootlegs, shmootlegs.

If people like Brandon are prepared to spend hours of their time and their expertise to SHARE a unique experience with dedicated fans, that can only be a good thing. The artiste is not losing money from these types of product, 'cos they never released it themselves.

I can understand that the artiste may not want some things out in the public 'cos they are unhappy with the quality as an example.

Live recordings are another area again, where a unique experience would be lost to many if bootlegs were not available. Again, no money lost to the artiste if they haven't released it themselves. I refer you to this years tour program from YES, it was all about the bootlegs that had been made over the years. Whereas Gary Numan and Peter Gabriel have gone the other way and are recording and selling all their live shows.

Well,it could be argued, that it's a breach of copyright to have made Tres Luans 2,therefore,yes it is illegal!!!

And it still can be sold and not be a "ripoff"

Creating something that's protected by owner-rights is one thing. As long as it's done for the love & enjoyment to its source, I don't see any problems in it.
The problem for me begins when someone is trying to make money out of the "creation". I've seen people on ebay who were disposed to spend 20 and more € for something that was burnt out of mp3s. And I always wonder how greedy one has to be to offer something that's (been) available for free to finance his next holidays or whatever. Same goes for people who make money by receiving stolen goods (live-bootlegs which were done without the permission of the artist). In my eyes these people didn't create the boots for the love of music, but for the greed of money.
....and I'm not talkin' 'bout the costs for blanks+postage, btw...

Later,

dkay

Like I said, if anyone wants to come after me for breach of copyright, let them go right ahead. I'll do my absolute best to get it off the internet.

But so far everyone has been supportive. Even in Terry Oldfield's department, from which I received an email.

I guess that if Mike Oldfield himself had released a soundtrack CD with the same tracls and was selling it to the public, then it would be a total rip-off if a fan compiled and MP3 CD with it and released it for free on the Internet, or worse, selling it for HIS profit. That is not the case, to me. And if Mike himself is not worried about it, I don't see why his fans should object and call it a rip-off. And believe me, he COULD demand you to take off the album from the Internet, if he wanted to. Come to think of it: with good enough lawyers, he could demand anything from you - even closing this website. But it seems Mike Oldfield is not Rupert Murdoch, after all.

My view is that those who buy (or get for free) these bootlegs tend to be those who have bought just about everything they could find of the "official" Oldfield output.

The moral position seems pretty clear in the case of Brandon's beautiful piece of work:
1. He hasn't made any money out of it.
2. No one has been robbed of anything.
3. There seems to be no official objection to it.
4. Anyone who listens to it who doesn't have the official Tres Lunas album is very likely to be inspired to buy the official album as a result.
5. It's a truly wonderful advertisement for the Tres Lunas game in particular and MVR in general. Being able to listen to the music separately like this is not only a privilege in itself - it also sends me back, time and again, to the game from which it originated. And I bet I'm not alone.

I've said it before privately, but here's my sincere thanks in public.
