SHINE Group: Members Posts: 138 Joined: April 2003 Posted: May 11 2003, 07:14 Hi all,     I've been listening to MO's music since he published Five Miles  Out. I have all his records and really love very much his music.     Sometimes it's difficult for me to "understand" some of his music. I don't like at the first listenning (as it occurred to me when I bought Amarok,for instance,and now it's one of my favourite) but after some tries, I get in and love his music.     I have been listening for TUBULAR BELLS for years now, and I still don't "understand" it. Just I cannot get in.    IMHO, there's no " musical continuity" between parts I and II, and part II sounds to me as an assembled piece made of little music bits picked here and there...     I'm sad to say that Idon't like TB part II because almost people says that it's his greatest work.      I know I have my own personality and I'm  not obliged to think as "people" do, but...      I wolud like to "understand"...          Any clues  ??? No, that's not a joke again about my Belgian beer, I'm serious. I didn't really understand the quieter part just before Sailor's Hornpipe, but since I've heard it while not being quite sober it's one of my favourits. Same with Heaven's Open. And if you don't drink, no problem. You should try it when you are in very different moods then. If you are very sad: put it on. If you are very happy: put it on. If you haven't slept well: put it on. If you are excited: put it on. If you have an ordinary day: don't put it on. It works for me! -------------- Read everything I write at own risk. Might have something to do with the fact that part I was recorded in one entire sessions, but part II was recorded in several parts, whenever there was free studio time from other artists. Personally I've never had any trouble getting into part II though. Back to top

The different sections in part II are fewer, longer, and IMO, they flow better than in Part I, even. Not that I'm dissing Part I or II individually, I never treat TB like two different parts, rather then a whole. I think it resembles a lot of emotions of Mike. maria Group: Members Posts: 928 Joined: July 2002 Posted: May 24 2003, 10:43 in 'side b', i love the way he makes one go up and down, starting with those wonderful wavy harmonics, the wistful mood carried by the mandolins goes on to 'peace' (u are right Blue Dolphin, it's great in knebworth... imho the best video of him. would be so good to have this in dvd btw...) later, the drum beating as a heart helps increasing tension till it explodes with the piltdown man supported by crazy electrical guitars... there's a great liberation feeling there leading to the ambient guitars, bit whose beauty imo is highlighted for the fact that it comes out from a powerful storm. it's like the place to rest after being brain-bombed or something... i find "more sense" and much more emotion in 'side b' than in 'side a', it's wilder and innermost. if i had to interpretate it for what i listen to, i'd say 'side a' is day and 'side b', night... outside and inside. -------------- ...morning and evening i'm flying, i'm dreaming... But, I haven't listened to Part Two all the way through for ages, so I'll need to do that again soon. The time I first really got into Tubular Bells was when I was listening to it in the car when it was raining. seravin Group: Members Posts: 1 Joined: June 2005 Posted: June 14 2005, 17:55 I have discovered the beautiful music of Tubular Bells for the second time, Since I am new to this site and also curious about the new TB version, could any of you please fill me in on changes that have been made since the original?  This is very interesting.. I remember the album that was in my parents house in the 1970's and being so suprised at its content. I am a big fan of the paranormal, and when I read the Excorcist three times of course Tubular Bells was playing in the back ground.. It definatly intensified the whole experience for me.
