Hi, I'm new to this board and Mike's music! I'd like to get to know some of you peoples out there as well.
I'm a younger person, so I love trying new music. I play flute, guitar and tambourine. I like pop, rock, punk, metal, and classic rock music. So I have multiple personalities, I guess!
And if you're wondering, my name "Extraordinary Girl" is the name of a song by Green Day. They're one of my other most favorite bands, too!
So drop me a line here if you feel like. I like meeting new people! :)

greetings,
Kjersti

Welcome Kjersti,

I am in my 40's but during the 90's when my sons were all teenagers, they introuduced me to JJJ Radio which is an alternative music station here in Australia, so when I am not listening to Mike who I have loved for 33 years since the very beginning, I listen to bands like the Gorillaz, the Disocciatives, SIA, Eskimo Joe, Cold Play etc. Most of those bands are Australian so you might not know them. However, I think we might have similar taste in music. I hope you enjoy it here, and I look forward to chatting with you. Are you on MSN Messenger, my email is tubulartracy@hotmail.com.

Nice to meet you. I'm not really that good at playing instruments. People tell me I have a good voice, I try playing guitar (not very well, but it's a start), and I'm learning to play the keyboard. It's being creative that is a problem. At the moment, my only real success is playing "The Source of Secrets" from Tubular Bells III.

Anyway, I'm also a fan of Green Day (I love Minority). But, my favourite bands are Queen, Blur, Arctic Monkeys (my Dad met their lead singer on a Curry Night in Sheffield City Centre), The Beatles, Richard Ashcroft, The Kinks and Pulp (another Sheffield band).

Favourite Songs include
"Boys Don't Cry" by The Cure,
"Bright Eyes" by Art Garfunkel,
"Break The Night With Colour" by Richard Ashcroft,
"Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen
and "Man In The Rain" by Mike Oldfield.

If you haven't guessed already I live in Sheffield, England. It's an alright sort of place once you get used to it.

Anyway, enough about me and my broad tastes in music (when you've listened to Classical music since very early years, fused wth your Dad practicing for playing gigs of rock/pop songs it's not surprising), I hope you enjoy this board. I know I have since I joined the Board about six months ago. Take care, and TTFN (Ta Ta For Now).

Hi from me too -  another not so young member. It's great that Mikes music still finds its way into peoples hearts.

But, I wonder what you find similar in Green Day and Mike's music?

Hi Kjersti,

Welcome to TubularBoard :D. I try and play a guitar, I struggle to get the dreaded F chord.

Favourite music other than Mike includes Queen,I gotinto them about 1984 and by the time of Live Aid I was converted. Also PinkFloyd ,Rolling Stones, and Led Zeppelin, etc etc and also many lesser known bands too, have you heard of the Edgar Broughton Band, and Kevin Ayers andthe Whole World, a teenage Mike played guitar/bass for them.

Just to prove that I'm not stuck in the 60's/70's I like Iron Maiden and Metallica, Marillion were one of the better bands of the 80's and I'm  into U2. I've been on a Muse kick today, out of recent bands I also like the Stereophonics andThe Zutons.  I've  been introduced by a friend to Show of Hands. SoH features Phil Beer who played guitar with Mike onThe Exposed Tour.     :)

Greetings from Bedfordshire ,England :D

Wow, you ARE young, just 13. There is a Poll asking how many Mike fans got into his music when they were 12 or 13, as it seems to be a common thing. Perhaps you could add yourself to the Poll and tell us about how you came to know and love Mikes music.

Nothing thrills me more than the thought of todays kids who listen to todays modern music, who ALSO love Mike. Sure, some of it is dated and some of it is crap, you have to expect that, some of it is 30 years old, possibly older than your parents!! But there are aspects of Mikes music that is as thrilling now as the day it was created and can compete against any of the current popular artists, do you agree with that?
