Yes, I was very saddened and upset to hear about this, and even more so to find out about his despair at the end. I think maybe he decided to choose to be in control of his condition, rather than gradually give in to it.
Even among the magnificent musicians of 70s prog, Emerson was a giant. The world is a poorer place without him.
