I was wondering what comparisons you might make between the two.

I'm currently transcribing an interview that went on between Orbital's Phil Hartnol and Mike in Ibiza in 1996, it was originaly published in Q magazine. It's quite funny and revealing, they seemed to get on quite well and the two went clubbing together.

Personaly I'm not much of an Orbital fan, I've seen them live a couple of times and I've not been to impressed. I think The Chemical Brothers, Leftfield and Underworld all do a similar thing much better, I find Orbital's music a bit lacking in any real character but they have done a few good tracks. Strangely enough I think there's more in common between The Chemical Brothers and some Mike stuff, not in an obvious way but The Chems have said on many occations how influenced they are by 70's prog/eletronica. Like MO The Chems also have a nack for getting the most out of a few simple yet highly melodic melodies and building them up to great effect.

Hehehehe I have that issue of Q, it's the one with Mike's LONG BLONDE HAIR! I couldn't believe it when I found it, it was hilarious. Maybe I'll see about scanning them and sending them on to Olivier, see if he can do anything silly with them here...

As Toby said, they've done a few good tracks.

Some of my favorit ones are Halcyon and on and on, The Box, and of course Little fluffy clouds.

I think especially the last one is best compared with Mike's music. Not for the repetative use of the lyrics but for the hypnotizing melody.
