Michael Stanton transcribed the Incantations Part 3 solo starting at 3:30 and made it available as a PDF. He also posted a video of him playing it.

Thanks for sharing, Michael!

Thumbs up! Got to study that notation a bit.

It really is one of the most fascinating electric guitar solo parts ever - yes you may say it goes round in circles, but in a good way.

There's nothing quite like it.

The way it's introduced is fantastic too. Part 3 is definitely in my short list of favorite musical moments of all time. :)

Well played Michael Stanton! Lovely smile at the end there.  :)

This solo of Mike's is breathtakingly on many levels. Not just the music and technique, but Mike baring his soul with powerful emotion for 5.18 minutes. It's up there with Ommadawn.

Great stuff there congrats!

It is without doubt my favourite moment of Incantations and one of the best Oldfield guitar solos that just continues to soar ever higher (a similiar idea used in the opening synth solo of part 2)

I love the beautiful semitone slides as he modulates yet again to a new key....amazing stuff and well done for transcribing it :)

Whenever I hear that solo it is as if I'm drowning in the music.

Do you mean drowning in a good way?

For me - 'breathtaking'. So probably a similar effect.

Thanks everybody for the encouraging comments! I definitely came to feel this solo was unique and amazing...I couldn't get it out of my head hence the transcription. The funny thing is, it *seems* to go higher and higher, but many of the (apparent) steps up in pitch aren't real. Several times you bend the high E to an F#, though the impression is that you've come to a higher level. Something to do with the disorienting chord progression I guess. Though true enough, the high G (which you can see I barely achieve, in the final seconds) is saved for the end.

Thanks again, enjoy the weekend,
--Michael S.

Yes I mean drowning in a good way. It's as if I'm lost in the music and nothing else matters, which gives a profound sense of freedom.

wow, I'd love to do this but I don't think I've got the patience nor ability, the music is all over the place and you've basically got to learn it from heart I guess.  Jolly good show!

I'm trying it. It's a challange. ... but I won't be able to play it all. Missing two frets on my guitar... :S

Not only is it difficult to keep up with the key changes, it's very hard to phrase it like Mike does. Well done for cracking it. It's one to try and learn as a challenge for sure but at the moment it seems like a mountain to climb. I play by ear and don't read note so it will be hard.  My guitar is also missing some frets so it will be hard to get all the notes.

Please tell me it was hard for you to work out and not easy ;-)

Thanks Ian! No it wasn't easy. As for the problem of missing frets, I think that the best thing might be to move some parts down an octave. It'll still sound good, and when you get ahold of a 24-fret guitar you can probably just move it back up.

I think I'll work on something from Omadawn next...

That is very good to hear. We wannabe artists apreciate your effort!

Hmm I wonder how it would sound on PRS SE Custom 24. I am thinking about buing it sometime in the future. It's still affordable and the only 24fret guitar I like. Other's are usually ehm metal like looking or more expensive...
