In a short interview, Mike reveals he is using FL Studio on a PC for his next album and might give away some of his loops when it's finished next year.

(Thanks, Jaume Porto Pérez)

Loops, eh?... Man, it seems he's definitely going electronica. I'll be hoping for the best.

Also interesting to see he's intending to finish the album last year. Well, that's probably closer than "God-knows-when".

Good to see yet another picture of Mike looking 'Happy'  :)  ;)

On another note I just read an interview with Liam Howlett of the Prodigy and aprantly he wrote and produced the whole of his new album on a laptop using (I think) the same program. Stuff done like that does have a particular 'feel' to it I think.

Cheers Booster I stand corrected yet again.

ps I got the new Prodigy album early and it's pretty darn good, if you like that sort of thing, which I do. It's much more like their second album I think and slightly more mainstream sounding.

no prob :)

Liam said that Hardware composing is kinda limiting the artist...which is right I think :-)

so I am really looking forward to what Mike comes up with

who? Mike or Toby? :D

Remember that Mike's previous loop-based music wasn't all dancey electronica usually synonymous with these programs. Most of the drum loops were well thought out. Matt's Hergest Ridge cover shows that you can produce wonderful things with Reason. I quite liked the music on TL (although the Maestro ending music is another matter)

As long as he doesn't come up with something like TMB I'll be reasonably happy

The "loop" thing annoys me, personally, and not because of the "techno" idea.

Back in 1966, some guys went into the studio and said "hey, I just figured out how cool it is to play tapes BACKWARDS. Nobody ever did it, you know? Plus, you can make loops out of these tapes, then make them record themselves until they couldn't take them anymore! So we can use these loops in to a song. Let's just... uh, call some guys to hold pencils to hold the tape loops while they're playing... it might work."

Nowadays, you just take a finished loop and use it exactly the way it's supposed to be used. Why don't people use machine in ways they SHOULDN'T be used, like people were making tape loops and playing them backwards back in 1966? Humans should dominate, torture and rule over machines, not the other way around.

There, rant done.

Sure, but those people don't appear on the news and TV very often.

excuse me but I see almost all of these comments here wrong...

you shouldn't judge a new album when you know nothing but the way how's it gonna be created...

so now try to think...and "shut up" and judge later when you hear it

sorry for language :P

cya

I'd rather judge him harshly first and run the risk of being pleasantly surprised, rather than holding my breath in anticipation, only to be disappointed. Plus, my comments weren't directed only at Mike.

Yes, it does. If more and more people think that it's ok for our artists to turn into soulless drones, music will DIE.

Besides, they do. Björk, Tool, Air, Radiohead, Sigur Ros to name but a few.

And BTW, people have been saying that for decades, possibly centuries.

If Mike has been paying attention to those people, they I shouldn't be so frightened, after all. He might have seen the reaction people had to Tres Lunas, so who knows, there are possibilities that he'll put serious effort in making something unique, this time around. I just don't want to expect too much at this point. I just get a negative thing from the word "loops", because it's been horribly vulgarised these days.

Maybe people have been saying that music would die for some time, yeah, but it's always a possibility. Rock music is dead already.
