From the Music of the Spheres page at Amazon.co.uk:
In this world, everything has a pulse or a vibration. This sound is unique to each living or non living thing and in itself creates a music that no-one can hear. I believe that this has a very powerful resonance with, and a deep effect, on our lives. What would happen if we took this further and apply this to bigger things , more powerful things ; like an entire solar system or galaxy say, what would that sound like?

Musica Universalis is the ancient theory that every celestial body, the sun, the moon and the stars has an inner music. This is a harmonic and mathematical concept derived from the movements of the planets in the solar system. The music created is inaudible to the human ear.

Music of the Spheres is my interpretation of this theory. Every planet and every star; even the whole universe has music within it that no-one can hear, this is what it would sound like if it was set free. This is Music of the Spheres.

    Mike Oldfield.

Thanks, Neil Ince.

It reminds me of The Secret Melody book by astrophysicist Trinh Xuan Thuan. His books are written in French and popular there. Think Stephen Hawking, better written and more poetic.

It is really very interesting! Many composers (mainly classical) addressed to this theme.
With impatience I wait for release of an album to take pleasure in this music!

Wonderful! I think that is the most clear and concise description I've seen for MOTS.

I totally agree, Ian.  Amazon should block reviews until an item is released.

Thanks Mike for explaining the wonderful concept of MOTS for us!

Very nice... it sounds as new album will have mathematical precision and some elements already seen in early works which makes this album very exciting.

I agree that was Just beautifull.

If it was possible could Mike himself drop a line and maybe a little sample.

Wishfull thinking hay.

Only now I realized that Mike already had the Musica Universalis idea in MusicVR, where all the planets triggered different tunes that then play together.

I don't mind about the concept - I mind about the music. But the concept does sound quite profound. Or some might say new-age or hippie.  :D

I hadn't made that connection before - thanks for pointing it out, Markus. Makes me want to revisit Tres Lunas now.

Yeah, Markus, I had the same idea when I first knew the album title.

No signs about the Halloween stuff, though.

Wow...man that's deep. I've heard about "string" theories and that astronomers are recording sound waves from all around our solar system from things like solar winds, planets and their atmospheres. But this is different...it's an album presentation! :O
It's a huge thing to make an interpretation of this but I really like it.  ;)

Like Ted Stevens would say, "it's not a big truck. It's a series of spheres."
