Hey. Just found these after a glowing review came out of *nowhere* on mobygames. And it reminded me of some of the Myst games which I really liked, Noctis (freeware PC thing), and Aquanaut's Holiday (PSX). Definitely enjoying it!

I was wondering if anyone know of any other similar games -- fanmade or commercial. Or if there've been any modding attempts for the MusicVR engine.

MeshGearFox, you've reminded me that I'd found the mobygames site useful in the past, but I hadn't thought to look up MVR there. Having now perused the comments there, I found the comparison of Tr3s Lunas with Fantasia rather intriguing. The other review sounded contradictory in effusively praising some elements then claiming them as detriments in the next breath. Still, it's nice to see these games getting attention.

I'm afraid I don't know of other MVR-like games, though.

Recently, I spoted a game for the Nintendo Wii console, which reminded me to MusicVR, "Endless Ocean". I'm considering buying or trying it.

Also, it has something in common with Mike: part (or all?) of the music in the game is singed by Hayley Westenra.

I don't know about any of these. I had some thoughts about the idea, but nothing serious, since I just don't have the time and, specially, the knowledge to do it.

Oh, and also there's this discussion. Oblique was working on something like MusicVR (Oblique, if you are reading this, have you finished it???), and I also had some ideas for a game... my plan is to have it finished this century  :/

With Mike having made the game free, I'd say the most interesting next step would be for him to make the editing software free as well. That would then open up the way for all sorts of new user-created scenarios.

I suppose the ultimate thing would be to make the source code for the engine itself available too, to allow it to be updated...but somehow I can't see either of those things happening.

Quick! Someone put Mike in touch with Linus Torvalds!

Seeing as Mike is usually ready to embrace new concepts and technologies, we can at least hope 2008 will be the year when Mike Oldfield defines free software as The Next Big Thing. :)

Dump that FL Studio! Be free! Use Linux! :D

Damn, I wanted to say "sunged". No, wait, ..., "sungined"... or was it "sangun"... err... yes...

Yeah, that were my thoughts long ago. The first thing I would like to see is the same game but with up-to-date graphics, like in some early videos we've seen, that would be superb.

But, as you say, that seems to be practically imposible... unless we bother Colin (again) with some requests... Maybe they could make it available, if not for everybody, for some fans, so they could improve it... Any thoughts about this?

Modding this game is a good idea and I think that it may just be possible. I can give you a hand if you want, I’ve modded a few games before, like warcraf 3 and cnc renegade. I specialise in 3d animation and i have all the software necessary to improve the graphics. All I need is an import/export script for 3ds max or Maya.
