Quote (dkaycom @ Oct. 26 2014, 07:00) | hmmm, well. it's different from much of the stuff offered here. and that's something I really like about it. many of the people doing "their" way of M.O. tunes seem to think that they have to sound 100% alike as the original. well, why doing a cover-version then? though this MS-cover is nothing too special, nothing one has not heard before, it has its own style, at least. and therefor alone comes a "thumbs up" by me. |
Well, thank you for your constructive opinion! Regarding this song, it was never my intention to produce an identical song – artistically this would be a pretty boring exercise. That's something I would leave for cover and tribute bands. This version must have a life of its own in order to stand the test of time.
So we did a professional production in a studio years ago (by the way, before there was any YouTube; this song was not released before 2014 and only performed live in concert at the time), with an elaborate arrangement and several things different to the original, such as keyboard lines and sounds, guitar riffs and guitar fills and vocal arrangement etc.
I saw on YouTube that there are dozens and dozens of cover versions of Moonlight Shadow (ranging from Techno to metal and play-along covers) – but I have to say I didn't encounter a cover that is similar to my version in any way whatsoever.
It's also very interesting to read the comments of people on my YouTube channel and of Facebook users all over FB, music fans as well as musicians, what they think of this version put into a powerful alternative and indie rock context.
By the way, back in 1997, my first solo album also got two reviews from the progressive rock fan press, one reviewer compared me to Oldfield, another one from Germany reviewed my album in his fan magazine, it's a flashback in time…
"The tracks have a taste of aggressive and feverish folk. Sometimes one thinks of Mike Oldfield and Cyndi Lauper.“ [HARMONIE #31, 1/97; from France]
"I really like the CD very much. The vocals remind me of Cranberries, I personally also like stuff such as ‘Zombie’ and so on. The acoustic guitar pieces are, to my opinion, close to Donovan.“ [HIAWATHA Mike Oldfield MAGAZINE, by Ralph Weiss; from Germany]
If anyone here would like to check out my own music, please feel free to do so, I am on Soundcloud and YouTube; my albums can be downloaded and streamed almost everywhere. Cheers, Cecilia
