Blimey, kind praise indeed..wasn’t expecting that.. Thanks Booster:-
nice beat...:-)
//Thanks, that’s actually a looped drum sample of Our Father by the man himself. I played around with the Umyx facility on the CD of Light and Shade and stripped out Mike’s guitars certain keyboards and various other parts, bass line is the original track but cut and edited, and recorded the leftovers,[which was basically a drum pattern, a few special effects] onto my Akai dps16 to lengthen it out a bit, I don’t run PC software, in fact Umyx is the only bit of software I used on my whole album and that only worked with Mike’s tracks. My website has a gear page which show folks the very basic and cheap gear I produce my music on..it’s laughable. I see people on here with lovely gear and I am quite envious of the stuff they have but hey, I have 3 kids and they get the best of my credit card…
nice bass...cool piano sound...but I would like the piano to be a bit more upfront...
//that’s me on a Korg N364, slightly edited preset sent dry thru a zoom 1020 reverb unit straight into the recorder, nothing flash or expensive, it’s a 10 year old synth, vastly underused by this old fret threatener…I agree in retrospect that the piano should be a lot more upfront, it’s lost slightly in the reverb and drum loop..should have taken more care/ time on the mixing bit…
composition sounds very nice to my ear a bit simplistic but I like it!
//Yeah it’s a bit repetitive, I was going for a new agey, relaxing hypnotic vibe to the track to counteract the very dodgy origins of the helicopter cockpit sample…. naughty pilots, no tea for them..
Very nice playing! And nice guitar sound...very oldfieldish...I think the solo...at about 2 minute reminds me of an oldfield song...I can't remember which though!
//that has to be the nicest compliment I’ve had!…cheers…it’s actually a reissue ’62 strat straight into the zoom reverb again then direct into the recorder, bit of delay and that’s it… the distorted guitar is the same strat into a £68 behringer v-amp pedal and again, into the reverb and into the desk, very simple, very cheap and very straightforward…nothing flash unfortunately so I’m really glad you like it..
I got part of the guitar from Weightless on TBII, about 4.23 in there’s a nice synth bit, so I just riffed on that little tiny bit ..It just came out as I was recording and I worked it into the song, nice one Mike.
though...I think you could do a shorter version...or add some more variation...After 3 minutes it couldn't hold my attention.
// yeah, your’e right, I got carried away with the thing, I might have a go at shortening it if I can find a segueway point that folks wont miss….I agree, too long.
Overall, nice composition, nice sounds, impressive playing...but a bit too long ....
8/10 or something like that...congrats:-)
//that’s a mighty fine score and I’m glad it was worth your while downloading Booster, nice one.
EDIT: woops forgot to mention that the reviewed one is: Apaches_Rule_Their_World.mp3
EDIT2: Unice Vida is just great :-) // even more thanks, it’s my fave on the album too, again, dirt cheap effects and equipment so mighty thanks for the kind words…
I’m lost for words.
Glen.
//Mike, that’s two compliments in a row, and for my humble track to remind someone of Mr Klugh is simply too much praise for this part timer..he is the main man as far as nylon guitar playing and latin groove is concerned…many thanks Mike…
As per my reply to Booster, to be told it’s an excellent production is truly humbling as I have extremely cheap gear so it’s kind of heartening to other folks out there who get by with PC’s and flash effects and cheap guitars, that it can sound good if you work at it..I do spend a lot of time trying NOT to sound like it’s all done in my bedroom!, so Im proud to get your comment about that aspect…If you like Klugh, perhaps I should send you my other stuff that’s more Klughy than Oldfieldy…you might like that..I like Oldfield and grew up learning to play guitar to TB when I was 12-13 but my latest project is so varied you’d have a hard time sussing out the main theme and influence…and I’m glad a Klugh fan has spotted the ‘sound’.. Funny enough, my mate in Cardiff confessed to ‘receiving something’ from his missus whilst listening to Unica Vida….only last week……woah!….subliminal messages ahoy maybe!!
Many thanks for listening to them and replying. Glen
//Markus, thanks… mine is a nod to that tiny part in TBII 's Weightless [4.23 in]but with a little bit more added etc………here’s the real test though, while the Apache pilot and gunner are talking, the lead guitar on the left does its own thing but it is also a tiny , tiny sample from another Oldfield track….Taurus 1 from Qe2, about 1.12 in…it’s quite faint but eagle eared listeners will pick it out…
Thanks Glen
//Hi Wayfarer….I’m not sure how I came about the translation, I thought it said The Single Life in Spanish….oh dear……probably means Two Bags of Salt and Vinegar Please……what is The Single Life in spanish…anyone?……
