Quote (Ginger Daddy @ May 22 2011, 21:54) | Quote (0 @ 1(I1)+May 22 2011, 20:29) | HI EVERYONE
HPH, I notice on the page you link us to above, selling (YOUR?) this work, that there is no mention of Mike, being an inspiration to you, & I just wondered WHY? PLEASE EXPLAIN!!. AS HERE below; http://www.musearecords.com/boutiqu....p=37549
As I believe, if I am not mistaken, I can hear an awful lot of his work in this short taster you have supplied us, here below. https://files.me.com/hphess/wfkpg8.mp3
I must say after listening to it a few times it is very good, almost a bit too MO for comfort, I say that because I would hate 4 any 1 2 push him 2 the side lines before his time, if U get my drift, yet I must say, I mainly liked the parts that were more MO than those that were not.
HOPEFULLY YOU WILL ONE DAY GIFT IT TO US 4 FREE, 2 get our free & honest opinions, as I do hope that your work/music shines though on/in the payed for version, or it could be considered very coincidental, could it not?. Whilst on your web site you make clear ref to his inspiring the/your work on/in the piece. AS HERE; http://www.healingroad.de/Web-Site/Home.html ALL THE BEST |
Well... before hph responds in a fit of pique... I'd just like to make the following points:
(1) On his website he makes reference to MO as an influence and that is great. Some people (and I can't talk for hph here) would rather not try to use someone else's name to promote their music. I am shameless and I am very happy to say that my music is influenced by Mike Oldfield but it is perfectly reasonable to describe the people who have put all the effort into this recording on a page about the album itself and then to describe more about influences on the composer on the composer's own page.
(2) I record music as a hobby and it is not easy. The music that hph and his fellow musicians have created here will have taken months (years?) to record and mix and master and get to the level of quality it is at now. I for one would not think twice about paying for something of this quality. I do not think (even in this current internet climate of 'give me everything for nothing' that it is right for someone to put blood, sweat, and tears into something and give it away for nothing. It would be great if everything was free but then there would be no funds for people to take the time to make great music. No advertising, no tours, and nothing for amateur artists to strive towards.
Sorry to be so negative about your comments but I just thought I'd post what I see as being the other side of the discussion.
At least we both agree that it is a wonderful piece of music with fantastic influences!
Cheers, Terry. |
Now can I take this oportunity to say.............there should only be one way to actually earn, writing music.........and that is getting out there and playing your music live to an audience. If someone can make money selling their albums without actualy doing that then good luck.
To me I'd rather give my recordings away and gather a crowd for when I play live. The true test.
Just my humble opinion, and it ain't worth a sot 'round here. O'h and there's too many folks trying to copy the maestro. You can't do it so stop. Do a cover and be judged by that. Or do something in your own style, genre and create something new. Thats what Mike wants.
