I just heard Cook's Tune on my sound system and it's really great. Probably the best folky thing I've heard from Mike for a loooooong time. It's one of these irish pieces which make you whistling and whipping your feet.

It's simply a new Sailor's Hornpipe !

More of that, Mike !!!

Woohoo! Listening to "Cook's Tune", I now know that the "Mike Oldfield of Sailor's Hornpipe, Portsmouth, Bodhran, and Pipe Tune" is not dead. He's in there somewhere!

All of those hoping for Ommadawn III (or is it II?) still have some hope.

We should all buy Cook's Tune to send a signal to Mercury. Then I hope some manager tells Mike: "Aehm, Mike, this Cook's Tune thingie was downloaded a gazillion times from Conrad.de. They made a hell lot of money with it ! Dammit, I didn't realize that these folky things sell so well. So can you please dust off these .... wait a minute, ah, yes, INSTRUMENTS and make us a fine folky album ? No, no, Mike, be a nice kiddie and just leave the motorbikes in the shack for a while."

Yes, you can buy it for 1 € at

http://sib1.od2.com/common....2F7008A

It seems that the site is only in German but you should be able to figure out how it works.

I have 0 euro, and it would probably cost me a lot just to get one. I have some deutschmarks somewhere around here though!

I've been trying to purchase this from the Conrad website, but have had nothing but problems in getting them to take my order.

No, I wasn't able to get the tune.  I could start to place my order, but the one time (of many attempts) that I was able to get to the point of giving them my charge card information, the site came back and said that they couldn't accept the information from my region.  Perhaps they have something against America!

At least I got to hear a snippet of it.  Was it my connection, or did it sound a bit "unfinished" or was it a poor recording.

A prize of an imaginary ride on Mike's motorbike (if your imagination is bad, I can send you a picture and a sound effect to play) goes to the first person who can identify the origins of the drum track, and what other track has used it on...

I'd like to be able to compete....

The only thing is I haven't been able to hear a snippet of this track. :/

I was so disappointed by Ligth and Shade but, Mike Oldfield don't forget another fan, he give a great track : Cook Tune.

Since FATC, it's a best track in my opinion.

Thanks Mike.

Heh, the prize should go to a female fan, I suppose. ;) But anyway, my answer:
It's the drum pattern from Led Zeppelin's When the Levee Breaks from their 4th album. Mike used it twice before Cook's Tune - on Crystal Clear and Out of Sight - but in both cases he used only the first part of the pattern, cut in the middle. However, it's not the case with Cook's Tune.
