As well as being a certified Mike Oldfield freak, I also really love the tv-series "Doctor Who" (god, how geeky sounding is that?).

A fellow Whovian friend of mine told me that Mike Oldfield was originally slated to do the soundtrack to the 1996 TV Movie of "Doctor Who", and that he recorded a demo of the Doctor Who theme. The producers listened to his version of the theme and decided to get someone else to do the soundtrack.

Is there any truth behind any of this? And if so does anyone know if Mikes version of the Doctor Who theme is obtainable anywhere on bootlegs or the internet?

Also, are there any other Whovian Oldfield fans out there?

By the way, I personally think it would be great to see Oldfield do a "Doctor Who" themed concept album, sort of like "Songs Of Distant Earth".
Does anyone else think this?

hiya... i am also a fan of DW and MO. though more of a casual fan of DW these days. i have had the pleasure of working with some DW stars... Sophey Aldred, Sylvester McCoy, and John Levine. i have connections with some of the people who worked on the Fox movie ... and will check with them and see if there is any possible info floating around about this rumor. though i believe that this is just a rumor... as the people working on the DW Fox movie knew i was a huge MO fan... so i would think they would have mentioned it to me at some point. if there is a demo floating around... ill see if there is any chance of getting my hands on it for everyone!

Hey, I just watched 'Girl in the Fireplace' this morning!! My faith was a bit shaken by the dodgy Christmas special we were served up recently so I needed to watch something a bit classy.
Excellent soundtrack on the episode too.
Hmm, can't find any MO connections... I did listen to QE2 last night.
