Is it just me, or did the Belgian entry this year sound like a Mike Oldfield composition?  I mean ... it even had bagpipes in the middle of it?  I liked it (well, a heck of a lot better than our UK entry!;).  And I note that Mike's currently with a Belgian woman (or am I out of date ...)!

Love all ...

I can't remember the entry. But I will say this:

1) The singing by Gemini was flat to say the least.
2) I think our Prime Minister (or is that President Blair) had a lot to do with ensuring that countries took a disliking to us and giving us 0 points (only Poland had ever got 0 points before tonight).

Should be interesting to read the papers tomorrow...

This is the last time I watched this! I know, I say this every year, but now I mean it! The quality of the songs in the fan tracks here is better than the average eurosong track! Yes, including the Belgian song! Stupid choreographie, boring composition... and I'm from Belgium! I felt so ashamed! And then we almost won! Un-be-lievable! And russia!! Shame!!! I think Greece was best, but it even didn't get close to victory. That eurosongfestival is a parody on music! Terrible, terrible!

Thanks for putting this topic on. I had to get this from my chest...

And btw, I liked Austria  :)

No,you are not the only one....
That's the first thing I said when the Belgian singers began to sing.
And I think that it was the best song tonight in the contest.
I was positivelly surprise to hear music like this in a contest like that
IMHO,they should have won,but I think this contest's rules are so bizarre as it's never the best song that wins the contest.
And I'm glad to see that my country (Spain) gave 12 points to Belgium ( but when you'll know that the first "belgian"  singer comes from Galicia,Spain, you'll understand what I mean when I said "bizarre rules  )

i couldn't agree more...
it's sad that being a musical event, at the end of the day, year after year, the most interesting thing on it is the scores part... yes, i know it's a contest, but even being a contest the most important part should be the music...
but music in eurovision is usually far from interesting...

I think you're all missing the point just slightly by taking it so seriously. It's all meant to be cheesy and its all meant to be slightly silly, thats part of the fun of it. How dull and utterly unfunny would it be if these were all serious musicians writing prog rock or something similar? I mean come on lighten up eneryone  :)

I watched it for a laugh with friends but I was pleasantly supprised by the Belgian song, IT WAS BY FAAAAAAAAR THE BEST.PERIOD!

The rest of the so called bands were very, very dull. Most all looked the same (blonde male singers in white suits).DIRE!!!!!!

I loved hearing that traditional nordic music they played while they were counting up the votes.Does anyone know how to get hold of this very inspireing stuff?

Cheers.

Ian.

By that I wasn't meaning I dislike prog rock (if thats what you're inferring) I was simple stating that its all supposed to be a bit of fun and its not supposed to be a demonstration of virtuoso musicianship. Does everyone have to take things so seriously all of the time? Maybe its all treated differently in different countries, here in the UK its alway's treated as a bit of a laugh, I alway's assumed everone was taking the piss.

I couldn't watch the song festival, I was working... (not that I care, I haven't watched for years...)

I even don't know the song from my fellow-Belgians... This because all of the Belgian Eurovisionsongs I know are crappy songs... Really... most of our music really stinks!!! Ok, there are a few nice groups, but our "Schlager" music is something te be achamed of (and off course...most Belgian singers are Schlagersingers...  :/  )

MIKE OLDFIELD FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!  :)

Im always saying that a track on Eurovision sounds like another one practically every year, but this Belgium entry was a clear rip-off of a track on TBIII, which I forgot for now.

I liked it and would have liked it to win,

Michael.

I wouldn't know that. Are you sure you don't mean another album?

Austria was definately the best one of them.

And regarding the UK entry, their song was an exact copy of Finland's entry a few years back (OK, arounf 1994 or so)... except that back then the song got 14 points or so.

I'm truly mad for the bad result of Latvian contest song by F.L.Y. - Hello from Mars, this was pretty pop-song.. I am glad for Belgium - this was nice in live performance
