Ridge Group: Members Posts: 11 Joined: Dec. 2003 Posted: Dec. 23 2003, 06:42 Managed to get hold of (by hook or by crook) extended versions of "Moonlight Shadow", and "Pictures in the Dark" do you think they compliment the orignals;improve on them or detract from them.....just wondered....Merry Christmas to all Ridge..... In the context of an album, an extended version of Moonlight Shadow, for example, can be very detracting, but when it's a single we're talking about, I think it's a wise decision. Ugo Group: Members Posts: 5495 Joined: April 2000 Posted: Dec. 23 2003, 19:43 I think that the two extended versions you mention are really the original cuts, i.e. the songs as Mike wanted them to be, and then they were shortened for the single releases. Click here to get a better understanding of why I think this. However, IMHO, the long mixes are way better then the short ones. P.S. Watcher of the skies Group: Members Posts: 67 Joined: Oct. 2003 Posted: Dec. 24 2003, 05:32 yes,the extended versions are original cuts.Mike shortened them later to have more ctchy song.remember that radio is playing mostly songs from 3 to 4 minutes long.6 minute long Pictures in the dark (the long version is excellent) would not get big airplay,that is why he shortened it.the same thing is with Moonlight shadow,To france,Shine,Innocent (they all got long mixes). "Innocent"'s 12" is definately another cup of tea than the 12" of PITD. It's re-worked by Rob Kraushaar, who did similar action(s) with other bands in the 80s (Propaganda for example). "To France" Extd. also sounds as there was a post-production where simply the "bridge" was implanted. Have a nice rest-of-the-week, dkay -------------- Bootlegs should be shared not sold.
