The new album is delayed,so there's no tour soon.Saw on the Amarok list.

There's a rumour about Mike playing in Spain at least once every year and yet...how often has he actually played there since 1999? Never...

Perhaps, when he still thought that the album would be ready for December 2004/January 2005, Mike genuinely did say he could perform this summer. However, I think it's just as likely that they simply used his name to get a bit of publicity for their event (after phoning him up, saying "Hi, would you like to do a concert in Spain?" "When?" "Oh, we don't know yet..." "Well phone me again when you do"...next day the headline in the papers "Mike Oldfield interested in doing a concert in Spain").

If it's anything like with the Xacobeo people, they're very keen to talk publically to people about the concert, unless those people are asking for an explanation of why Mike knows nothing about it...

You can be sure though, that next time I organise a concert, Mike will be appearing there. Just don't expect to get an answer from me if you ask me why Mike says he's going to the pub that evening.

I have readed in a spanish economic newspaper that within the events to celebrate the centenary of the writing of the "Quixote", the spanish city of Ciudad Real has planned some concerts and expositions. One of them, if we believe this newspaper, is Mike's concert in July. I'll try to post a scan of that page as soon as i can.

I wonder if he will play "Don Alfonso" at the concert, or perhaps a reworked Quixote/Quijote version!

The Quijote concert is what Tati was referring to. The organisers have apparently said that, because Mike is still working on his new album, he won't be touring, and so won't be playing in Ciudad Real this July.

One question,so Mike is feeling confortable again to do a tour when his new album is finished ?

The Cervantes´ city (writter of El Quijote) is Alcalá de Henares. No Ciudad Real.

I'd never said who's city it was. The fact is that the concert is in Ciudad Real. Several cities have planned events.

Diario Lanza Digital, from Ciudad Real claims that Mike will play in summer in that city. I was just about to ask the same to the list.

I'd imagine that they're just reporting the news from an old press release, or perhaps the organisers can't even agree with themselves over whether Mike's going to play there or not and are all saying different things! For that reason, I'm not sure I completely trust either piece of news, but going from experience, I'd say that the news saying that Mike won't be appearing is the more accurate of the two.

Mike Oldfield plays in the Ciudad Real's Bullfight Square in the middle of July. Friday 15th or Thursday 16th probably.

That's was the only concert that he plays in Spain this year.

The inference of the concert organisers was that the concert was supposed to have been part of a tour, which Mike has postponed. I'd not be surprised if they'd never spoken to Mike, and just made up the part about the tour, but this is the message, as relayed by Octavio Molano on Amarok:

"Last 15th of February, Oldfield's representative in Spain
told us that due to a delay in the making of his new album,
the planned tour for July has been postponed.

We are sorry for the nuisance that
the artist's attitude may cause you.

It's our intention to be able to substitute this concert.
This change will be communicated appropriately
to the press and will be published in our website
www.quijotealcala.com"

Since I know, thing happened this way in Spain. First, more than a month ago, local (and some national) press claimed that Mike would be playing at Alcalá de Henares. This is the concert that was cancelled due to Mike´s delay in his new record, as it was reported above. Later, local press (and some national) announced the same event at Ciudad Real, this concert has not been cancelled yet, I think. Obviously, it´s the same story and I suppose none of the concerts are going to come true. If not, isn´t the time to have some "official" news?
Probably this kind of comments have more to do with people related to Mike´s record company in Spain than with Mike himself.

I have a feeling I also saw Ciudad Real mentioned a few months ago. I may be mistaken there, but that's what led me to believe that the stories were one and the same.

If he's cancelled one that month, he's hardly going to do another just because it's in a different place! Maybe if the second concert was announced as being in August, it would be more likely, but I think that if their reasons for cancelling are genuine (i.e. delay with the album leading to him postponing a tour), there's no likelihood of him playing anywhere at all in July (outside of his own home/studio, of course ;)).

Still, we can try and see what can be coaxed out of the people who should know for sure...

i would love to see mike tour again, it might be likely that he will premiere the new album.  Seeing as all these rumours suggest a concert outside of the UK, i am a little disappointed. i know this may sound a little selfish, but mike is home grown in England.

Message for Mike: Remember where your home fans are! dont forget us

Hi there, friends.

I have realiable news (from well-informed sources) telling me that Mike would have signed a pre-contract to play live at Ciudad Real, maybe in *July* or in *August*, at the Bull Square.

I have also heard that he would play even if he hasn't released his new album by that date.

Hope all of this will be true :)

I'll keep on informing if something new happens.

Greetings.
