Hello,

About 15 years ago, I heard a piece on the radio that I'm pretty sure was by Mike Oldfield (its style and orchestration reminded me of parts of "Tubular Bells" and "Tres Lunas"). In the opening of the piece, there are owl calls mixed as sound effects.

Does anybody here know what I am referring to (if it is indeed by Oldfield)?

Thanks in advance.

Perhaps you are thinking of "music from the balcony" from "heaven's open" .. it features owl type sounds, a standard preset on the proteus 1 module.

Thanks. That might very well be it, since the album was released in 1991. That would be about the time that I first heard it.

Do you by any chance have a link to a sample sound file? I want to know if this is the piece that I'm thinking of before I buy it.

You could always listen to one of those 30sec samples on Amazon or iTunes or something :)

Are you sure it was Oldfield? When you mentioned "owl calls" the first thing that popped into my head was some of the stuff Enigma was doing at around that time - their "Cross of Changes" album. Might be worth checking out... :)

I doubt very much it was Music From the Balcony. Firstly I doubt its ever been played on the radio and secondly I doubt even if you did hear it on the radio you'd think it was an Oldfield piece, its very unlike anything he's done before or since and its certainly nothing like TB or Tres Lunas.

I don't think what you heard was MO unless your memory is playing tricks on you.
