Quote (qcfoetus @ Nov. 14 2024, 12:50) | It's a reversed, pieced together version of the chant sung by Clodagh Simonds on Ommadawn, starting at 12m30s and ending at 13m30s. The words probably don't have any meaning, other than the symbolic value of using reversed lyrics as the central theme of an album called "Return to Ommadawn." |
Ohh...that makes sense, because the voice sounds so familiar. But kind of disappointing in a way that there aren't real words (even if sort of made-up as in Ommadawn) to sing along to. Thank you very much for providing closure.
Actually it's similar to the Ultravox song "Rage in Eden" which includes the slowed down and reverbed title lyrics from another song of theirs from the same album, "I Remember (Death in the Afternoon)" played in reverse. The funny thing about Ultravox being involved with reversed lyrics is that they worked quite extensively with a certain very famous record producer who was also known for, or at least subject to rumours surrounding, his practice of the technique (....that man being of course George Martin).
ULTRAVOX - RAGE IN EDEN
basically from 2:29 to end. It creates a wonderfully eerie sonic effect. I wonder if Mike Oldfield was familiar with this Ultravox track and inspired by how well this little piece of studio trickery worked? They were of course vying for chart success with each other at the exact same time in the first half of the 80s.
