Well folks it's nearly 2006, and I'd love to see Mike tour here in the UK. as has been rumoured may happen, I know ultimately the decision on wether to tour or not rests with Mike, and I'll respect his decision.

This year also saw the 30th Anniversary of Ommadawn, my favourite album ever :D .  The 30th Anniversary passed quickly and quietly with little fuss.  Compare this to the publicity of another of the greatset albums ever Queen's A Night At The Opera. A 30th Anniversary CD/DVD of NATO was released. To me Ommadawn and Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody/NATO represent the last of the great epics of musical expression before Punk so rudely exploded onto the music/fashion scene.
To this extent I feel Ommadawn hasn't received the justice it deserves, in that there hasn't been a 30th Anniversary  issue of this great album. It would be fantastic to have a DVD of The Making Of Ommadawn" film,  I can get 10 1/2 minutes to play  on my computer download, but how great it would be to see this in its entirety with a quality picture :D. Also I'd love to hear outtakes/demo versions of recordings, as I like to hear the development of the recording from its most raw form to the finished form.  So come on EMI/Virgin and Mike Please Please Please consider this, I know as a lone voice I won't have much sway in such matters, but I'm sure others would back me up.

  :)

To Korgscrew  PS I bought the 30th Anniversary CD/DVD of NATO, to find that it doesn't have the "Compact Disc Digital Audio" legend on the CD, but it has "Compact Disc" written on the CD, is this copy protected?  I noticed that TB2003 and Rolling Stones "Live Licks" are copy protected and have no legend on them at all.  I've had problems with certain CDs not playing properly on a Marantz CD player, I now know it's the CDs at fault and not the player.

I don't have it, but as far as I can tell, no, it isn't. I don't know what the positions of Roger Taylor and John Deacon are on the issue, but I know that Brian May is heavily against copy protection, and as he was so heavily involved in the project, I can't see that he would have allowed it (and he'd have kicked up a huge fuss by now if they'd done it without his permission!).

I do agree that a special edition of Ommadawn would be nice, as we discussed in your thread about it (which is here if anyone hasn't seen it already), and I can't say a tour would be a bad thing either! I suppose we will see how it goes...

I heard a story about the NATO anniversary and "Bohemian Rhapsody" yesterday on a major US radio network. Apparently, there is a documentary of some kind concerning it to be aired on ABC TV sometime soon.

Alas, no mention of "Ommadawn". I've never heard any part of that one mentioned or played ever over the airwaves in the United States.

Best wishes to all for a spectacular and peaceful 2006!

Can't say I'd be upset over an MO tour, either. :D

I've not heard any of it either--not so much as "On Horseback"...not even on WICB, the Ithaca College station that used to feature a Sunday evening progressive rock program, called the Musical Box. They seemed to play something of Mike's each week, so maybe I just missed Om. Although it looks like ICB has some great programming, the MB is no longer listed (they apparently stream, in case you're interested in checking out any of the other proggies). Although a Corning, NY station played Incantations in its entirety upon its release, I don't think they ever played Ommadawn (it was pretty extraordinary for them to play Inc). There have been a couple of DJs on the Amarok Mailing List in the past who have played Mike's stuff. Not sure if Om was on their playlists, though.

Korgscrew, I notice you haven't re-directed people elswhere or even locked this thread as you did with my Christmas wish. Ofcourse, last year you completely deleted my message saying happy Christmas.

@ TanGram,  Korgscrew has re-directed people to my "Ommadawn 30th Anniversary Poll" topic.  I can understand your anger at having your topics locked/deleted, but I feel that's no reason to call people "utter c**ts".

Korgscrew if I have made an erroneous post I'll be happy to continue this discussion elsewhere.

I'm so glad to see that Brian May is against copy protection, as when I buy a CD I would like it to play on my CD player, not have to take a gamble on if it will or won't.  There's no "copy protection" logo on the NATO 30th Anniversary CD/DVD, but I thought all CDs are meant to be digital audio
:/ .

@ Moonchildhippy: Maybe the CD logo is just there to mark one disc as a CD and differentiate it from the DVD, as they have the same label. :)

@ TanGram: Please stop this. It's not worth it.

P.S. @ Moonchildhippy... When I first read NATO in your post up there without carefully reading the rest, I thought you were referring to Laibach, who made a CD called NATO... meant as North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. :)

Korgscrew, you're a c***.

Yes, I am. Get used to it - I was here before you, you knew what you were entering when you signed up...

But if you want a more proper explanation, yes, I redirected people to a well established happy christmas topic. We can't have everyone start his/her own, it would be a mess. We had already merged a few new ones into that one, and we felt that maybe leaving a locked one in general discussion with a redirection to the older topic would help people to see that another one already existed.
I'm afraid I don't remember deleting a christmas post of yours last year, so I can't discuss why it might have happened. It may not have been me. You should have taken it up with us at the time. I'm not saying that we might not have made a wrong decision, maybe we did...but with the way you're voicing your complaint, why should we believe that you're saying this for any reason other than to cause trouble?

As for this topic, I did redirect people to the previous topic, but left this one open as I felt that the core topic of the thread was different enough to warrant having leaving this one open. The hope with adding the link to the other thread was that it would steer discussion on that particular subject away from this thread and into that one.

With admin decisions, we do what we feel is best. That doesn't mean we always do what's best. We don't do our work under what could be termed 'professional' conditions - that is, we might be administrating here whilst thinking over things at work, or while we wait for our evening meal to cook. We try not to do anything whilst under the influence of anything, but right now I've come back home from a new year party and after a few beers, a few of the buttons relating to members are looking particularly shiny and attractive...
So sometimes our way of handling things might not be as perfect as it could be. Such is the way...we're open to comments, but only if they're politely voiced. Approach us like you're trying to pick a fight, and you'll find us get stubborn amazingly quickly. You can call that lack of integrity if you like, but I think you'll find it's how life works - people often won't be nice to you if you aren't nice to them. Still, consider that, despite how shiny those buttons look, I haven't touched any of them...yet...

About not having touched the buttons...well, that was before I found an abusive post elsewhere. I guess my hand slipped when I was heading for the delete button...

Indeed, we do the best that we can and actually, locking and redirecting people seemed like the best approach. I had merged at least one new topic into the existing Christmas one, and then the other day yet another new, redundant topic appeared. So....we changed strategies.

The current topic started out on a such a happy, hopeful, and good note, and contains much decent discussion. I, for one, do not want to read the abusive language hurled at anyone, which is pinned between that good discussion. I find it unwarranted and incredibly upsetting. Insulting an administrator who gives so much of himself, his time, and his heart to this place is nearly unforgiveable (would like to omit the "nearly" part). Downright evil.

For me, the choices are deleting the bad stuff or sending the entire thread to the trashcan, which I don't want to do. But....I'm really, really tired and it wouldn't be fair to do anything without a consult with Korg. What a thing to stumble into at 3 AM in the new year and completely sober.

How miserable to find these horrible posts here, and what a sorry way to start the year. I don't even understand what the issue is, though it seems petty enough.

I'm entirely with Inkanta - Richard, I'm really sorry you had to deal with this.

Can the offensive posts be deleted, please?

As topic starter, I felt I would put my  wishes for '06 into one topic, I  intended to keep this related to Mike's music  . I could wish for world peace, but I don't see that happening with politicians, especially those who don't listen to the people are governing. Now most politictians DO lack integrity IMHO.

After all isn't Mike's music the reason we're all here :)?  I didn't envisage that this thread would result in a attack full of profanities on anyone. I do NOT wish to come onto TubularBoard and read such personal abusive attacks on anyone, be it another member,( be they an administrator or not), Mike or for that matter any other artist.
If people don't like how TubularBoard is run then you have the free chioce, to go elsewhere, but please don't post such offensive posts here.

Yes, a truly unfortunate exchange to stumble on just after a new year launches into existence. Please do delete such base language.

Maybe it was Tangram that was having too many beers and is the type to get agressive when doing so - I thought Korg was beautifully restrained and witty in dealing with such a head on attack on his person and integrity (even after having had a couple of beers).

Well done Korg for being such a brilliant administrator, I've appreciated your wisdom in dealing with many issues on this forum and also loved your enlightening posts that often appear. Please keep it up and don't let such base posts put you off (as I'm sure they won't). ;)

Absolutely the same sentiments from me too.

I was so shocked and offended to read such unjustified vehemence from whoever it was. But things like this do bring to light how lucky we are to have such a 'cool' administrator. ( though I really don't want to see any more of the bad stuff naturally ). I'm looking forward to visiting this forum in 2006 for many reasons. And to know it is in the care of such a well balanced and fair administration gives me even more confidence. Tubularnet is the best!

Wishing all members & administrators a happy & peaceful new year.

P.s Hoping this is the year for an Oldfield tour!! :)

so sad way to start the year...
Its sad when people go crazy like that. But then again we are sheltered  :)  If someone is not very nice Korg fix it and thank you very much for that Korgscrew!
I think you are a very good man to take the control. And you have the right to be respected. So for this we all mo fans can keep talking in piece (hopefully)
I enjoy this place and like moonchildhippy said:

<tucks cleaning tools away under the sink> As you may have noticed, we have cleaned up and sanitized the topic a bit. :D

We are indeed very lucky to have this tubular place that Olivier avails to the world and which Korgscrew does such a brilliant, effective, wise, and cool job of maintaining.  Thanks, too, to all of you for your insight, good judgment, and for speaking up when things go wacky! This is a special place indeed, and I will echo Tubularman's sentiments for continuing peaceful conversation.

Whether or not Mike tours this next year is out of our hands, but together we can make tubular.net an incredibly wonderful place for 2006!

Pace, Peace, Paix, Friede, Beke, Frede, Pokoj, and Wolakota!!

Kindest regards,

M-C
