I'm starting to like Alanis again. Never really disliked, but after enjoying the 1st album didn't care much about, until I recently bought "So called chaos".

Anyway...I found this cover of the Black Eyed Peas song both hilarious and beautiful.

Hmm...I suddenly feel like listening to Dvorak's 9th...strange...

Now how do we get her to make a cover version of "Surfing"? :D

I was very keen indeed, and thought that the last proper album (So Called Chaos) showed some very interesting new developments. She even had a new haircut, suggesting a kind of reinvention of who she was. But then suddenly she switched back - even started using hair extensions; her performances seemed to revert to a kind of copy of her earlier self, and she made some rather cringeworthy comments about certain marketing deals. Since part of her strong appeal for me had been her openness and sincerity as a singer/songwriter, I quickly lost interest. The acoustic Jagged Little Pill rapidly faded away after a mere two playings - it seemed to lack all the fire of the original. So I'm in a kind of Morissette doldrums at present.

No offence - I just can't help smiling a bit at the A.M. Thank You parody.

Jagged Little Pill was a real slam out of the blue at its time and I have to admit I was really taken by that new sound for one year or so after the release. In her following albums I think she made 1 big hit in each one of them but the rest...

Alanis Morrisette.  There should be more female singer/songwriters like her. She did some good music videos too.

Metaphors & Irony Alan Morris

I don't think I've ever heard of this guy, but he made me laugh with the "town planner" and "spoons" stuff.

It was Irish comedian Ed Bryne, and that Alanis Morrissette/Ironic routine has kind of become what he`s most famous for now. There`s a longer version of it somewhere where he refers to her as Alan Morris, hence the name change there. So Alanis was once asked apparently that the Irony of the song Ironic is that it contains absolutely no Irony whatsoever. To which she replied "yes it is"..Although if you look it up on wikipedia they do point out that it contains numerous examples of "Cosmic Irony."..Which maybe in theory is kind of like saying Mike Oldfield`s Music Of The Spheres is a Cosmic Classical album.A little bit of earthbound sarcasm for you there.Or for those people who are perhaps uncomfortable with that kind of base humour:Cosmic Satire.

Anyway minus a million points for me here for not seeing that that Black Eyed Peas thing had already been linked...Doh!.I must confess I`m not overtly familiar with a lot of Alanis Morissette`s back catalogue apart from the odd single here and there.Of course even if you`d been living in a cave in the outer hebrides you still would`nt have been able to escape all the airplay the singles off Jagged Little Pill got.I think I quite liked "Ought To Know" the first hundred times that I heard it.Although to be frank I never really took to the way she sang "Thea-taar" Even if it was done "tongue in cheek"   ;)

Due to the job I had at the time were the radio was on all day and every day.It felt like that album was getting rammed down my neck for months on end.So I have to admit I`m probably totally biased towards her as a result of that.Kind of ironic really,in a cosmic sort of way.
