Hello all!

Well, here you have it  :p

I am currently working on an album with my own music (next to the TSODP project, which is delayed due to the workload in this final months of my studies).

I'm about halfway through recording my album (that includes writing and recording music).  The album will consist of a series of "synthopsis" tracks, in each of which one instrument will be used.  Surrounding that body, some tracks are placed which use multiple instruments.  I also try to stick to one technique for each Synthopsis part.

This part, currently labeled "part 2", is played on my Eminent 2000 GT (analog electronic) organ and its built-in string ensemble.  For this track, I chose to record (and hence play) it in one take, so no cut, paste and layering work. Of course I had to try quite a few times before I could play the whole thing without too many mistakes during a recording session :).

Anyway, here is the track. I used the percussive voices (piano and the like) on the upper manual. I used the string ensemble on the lower manual, and on the upper as well from about halfway into the song. Fom this point on, I leave the lower manual and play on the upper one only. No foot pedals are used as those need a repair, and the music sounded right with using only my front legs anyway :).  I chose not to use any arpeggiators and things like that, to stick to the pure "what you press is what you hear" approach of this part 2.

The music itself is written with the idea of expressing the versatility life, through (a very small part of) the versatility of this organ.

I happily dedicate this album preview to all those claiming that you can't compose or play if you can't read notes, you can't play if you did not take lessons, and people of my age should not be having an organ.

(not like I don't see the enormous value of notes and music lessons!!!! I should take lessons once, and learn to read notes).

Enjoy!

On a sidenote, as you can hear I did spend my free time and money into making my home studio all set up for the TSODP project.  Unfortunately, the paperwork for this project did not keep pace with the practical work needed in my "studio".

Did anyone listen to it yet?

As this is the first piece of music I spread online, any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I don't see myself as an organ player - I'm a keyboard guy who plays multiple keyboard insturments but not solely organs.  I did get feedback from a professional organ player on this one though.  In his opinion, I played very melodically for somebody who did not get any lessons. Of course, lessons would definately improve my playing as it is very far from perfect.  He liked the music, and said that more use of minors would increase the possibilities in my music in general, though this one got quite some feeling into it for a piece using almost exclusively majors. I know that this is one of my limitations. At the moment, one does not often find my fingers at the black keys :).  I am working on that though. I did use a little bit of minors on this piece, but the majority of it is white keys only. Now that I think about it, I should have claimed it was a dogma instead of my limitations ;) :D.

The link did work for some people, and I tested it at 3 PC's, so the link itself is correct (its URL).  As it comes from Angelfire, it might have some problems though, like we're seeing in your case.    DOn't break your head over it, the fault is at Angelfire.

Does anyone know where to easily host a file with better results than Angelfire?

If you are having problems and you have a large email (4.5 MB attachment), I will send you the mp3 by mail. Just give your emailadres via a private message.  That counts for everybody who has problems.

Thanks for the interest!

So, is there anybody who did find the words to tell just how much he disliked it?  ;)

Seriously though, it's the first thing I posted here so any feedback would be most welcome.

The track starts off with a pretty little tune, it does lose it's way here and there though, I'm not keen on the rapid notes played around 2.40 and 2.55, also the outro seems a little long winded and disjointed. This type of music isn't really my 'cup of tea' but I liked the track overall, and it's always nice to hear something that's a break from the norm.

Thanks for the feedback!

Do you identify the outro as starting on 4:20 or earlier?

I appreciate the comments a lot. Even if I would do nothing with them in future work, I'd still have learned a lot about differences in taste of music between individuals.

This piece indeed isn't exactly the norm.  I have made other, more categorizable tunes :). Yes, even folk
