I agree with you, but I was'nt shocked when I first heard it, because I recognized myself in it. I thought 'Hey, thats how I would make it too, if I was in Mike's situation'. I knew that Mike was very angry and bored of Virgin when he made Amarok. If you have the same, or almost the same experiences like Mike, you recognize yourself in his music. All the noisy/violent parts in Amarok does'nt irritate me, because it's feelings. Feelings are the driving force in music. And even the title of the album seems hard and powerful to me. Amarok is a story, filled with gush of emotions, and that's why I think it's the best Mike Oldfield album ever.
Maybe Mike was influenced by the Emperor Palpatine in Starwars: The return of the jedi:, when he said: Loose your anger...
