I have read in the past about the meaning of the title of this album and it all makes sense, about wolves and stuff. But it occurred to me the other day whilst listening to Simon And Garfunkel ( of all things!;) that one of their songs, "I am a rock", could express some of the sentiments behind Amarok, apart from being almost identical in title. The lyrics are as I hear them,

A winter's day
In a deep and dark December
I am alone
Gazing from my window
To the streets below
On a freshly fallen silence shrouded snow

I am a rock
I am an island

I build walls
A fortress deep and mighty
That no one may penetrate
I have no need of friends
Friendship causes pain
It's laughter and it's loving I disdain

I am a rock
I am an island

Don't talk of love
Though I've heard the word before
It's sleeping in my memory
I won't disturb the slumber
Of feelings that have died
If I never loved I never would have cried

I am a rock
I am an island

I have my books
And my poetry to protect me
I am shielded in my armour
Hiding in my room
Safe within my womb
I touch no one and no one touches me

I am a rock
I am an island

And the rock feels no pain
And the island never cries

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And I happen to absolutely love this album by Mike. I am always hearing new things in it!
You heard me before
Yet you hear me again
Then I die
Till I call me again
...but never too far?
Hmm. It could partly express some of the feelings behind Amarok - sort of like a poetic version of Heaven's Open, but I think it's more personal to Simon and Garfunkel. The last verse does conjure up the Hoover section for me, with the 'narrator' smashing the mirror
