It was NOTHING BUT PARADISE, sorry. Then I realised the error of my ways and have since bought nearly 400 cds but I still go to Mikes cds first. I only listen to him when I am alone. I seem to have different obsessions in different seasons, and at the moment, it's Sigur Rós. ( )... Ahhh. I could say that you find other artists boring just because they're different from Mike, which is what you're used to. And since Mike's music is so idiosyncratic in general, it's tough to find music like his! If you want to spread out your tastes, I say 'keep trying'. You never know what kind of music may get you hooked - it may be Pink Floyd just like it might be The Ramones. But of course, you can't force something down your throat if it just doesn't go. Give Mike some time before you feel like trying something new. If possible, try something radically different from Mike Oldfield, like... say, The Who. Take it with an open mind. valaUK Group: Members Posts: 3 Joined: Jan. 2005 Posted: Jan. 31 2005, 12:18 My all time favourite has to be Hergest Ridge, it conjurs up so many images in my head - vast celtic hillforts, the lull before a storm, epic battles etc, haunts of ancient peace etc (I've got a furtive imagination! - I first listened to it as an isolated teenager wayyyy back in the early 80's, it was the only thing that seemed to make sense at the time music wise and it's always the album I go back to although Incantations runs a close second - pure escapism.. -------------- Imagination fills the spaces, shades in the features and delights the soul Back to top

If I wanted to try something different from Mike without going for the Sex Pistols, I would recommend Moby, I heard recently that he is influenced by Mikes music but is ultra modern and eclectic. -------------- I hate getting up early. familyjules Group: Members Posts: 1190 Joined: May 2004 Posted: Feb. 02 2005, 04:30 At the moment I'm playing lots of Mike's music because there's something there I don't find in any other artist.  I'd say I've been playing him above everyone else for about 9 months or so now.  But this hasn't always been the case, and knowing me I'll burn out and move on to one of my other faves, and then come back again later.  I tend to be cyclical like that. At first i was a bit critical but after hearing all the songs u just couldnt help, i had been hooked by his music. Maybe not on mainstream Radio and Music Television but if you search, you will find it. And altough i rate some of Mike's Works above (almost) all of it, it still is great and it is something different. I used to listen to Mike's music every day. Now maybe I only do it once or twice a week but that is because I have listened to it that often that it is now a part of me, it is always present (consciously or unconsciously). And I want that to happen with some other music as well. And apart from that listening to the same music all of the time (as good and varied in itself it might be) reduces the pleasure of listening to it (after a while). (I know and value the music but I was never really hooked on it. but I was hooked on Thievery Cooperation for a - short - while. btw. check out "The Notwist" (Neon Golden or Shrink) if you like Sigur Ros. They are rather unkown but pretty good and innovative). Funnily that last "phase" had been Cat Stevens (after watching Harold and Maude). It does not always have to be complex and interesting music.
