I keep doubting if I am picking the right forums to post in so apologies if I'm breaking rules unspoken. I wondered whether this would count as an In the Media item, decided the details were probably not current enough, but bring your attention to Mike's three credits in this new-ish book MTV Pop and Rock Records 2011, the most interesting of which is in the list of the first records played by a selection of UK radio stations.
A more extensive list, perhaps as used by the authors, is here: http://www.mediauk.com/article....tations (sorry, still haven't figured out the nuances of inserting hyperlinks). As you may see, back in 1980 both Severn Sound in Gloucester and 2CR in Bournemouth went with Arrival. I already knew my local [West Sound] had but they chose ABBA, the fools! Radio today being what it is, both have now been absorbed into the Heart network for better or - and you have to assume - for worse, but their first steps were wise ones, I judge.
For my first purchase was The Complete Mike Oldfield on cassette, and track one told me that I had not wasted the gift voucher I had used. My family appreciated that song at least, noting the Greek feeling to it. I wonder if the originators of the Mamma Mia musical... nah.
