Just one of those things that I wonder about. I dream a lot, but it's always very visual. I am not aware of any sound in my dreams unless it's the radio waking me, or a noise outside the house which then becomes part of my dream. Do you dream in sound and are you able to remember it? Do you recall listening to music in your dream, possibly a certain kind of music!!! I have dreamt of meeting Mike Oldfield. I did not want to wake up!! :) What about you?

Thats a very interesting question....Hmmmmmm I have notice people talking in my draems but never noticed background sound. I think while awake we tend to ignore every day sounds and only pay real attention when people speak..
When i dream tonight ill try and take more notice...

I had a dream a month ago about a Hungarian composer Csaba Vedres who usually plays the piano and sings besides with his distinctive, slightly brazen voice. He had a solo concert somewhere. I waked up suddenly and remembered the last 7 notes, that were very unusual to me and it wasn't a typical Vedres melody either. While having a shower I worked out how it should build up and sound, but as I didn't write down the notes, I couldn't remember it at the end of the day... I only remember some properties of the intervals, maybe if I think about it a lot more, I could recall it again...

Well, it was a strange dream as I rarely listen to Vedres' music. His songs are mostly neutral to me.

Yes I have sound in my dreams.

I've once dreamt that I was a bass player in a band (I'm actually a keyboardist) and during the rehearsal it was very easy to play. And then when the concert began, I suddenly realized that I couldn't play the bass!  :/   :D

I sometimes dream about a melody, I even composed music in a dream and it "sounded" really great, though when I woke up and played the thing on my keyboard, I realized it was actually very bad.

External sounds are very often incorporated in my dreams. And I might be wrong, but I think I, at times, have made up sonds during dreams. My mind just makes it up and I 'listen' to it. But I'm never sure if it is a made up song, or an actual song playing while I sleep. There are just lucky times when my mind takes over and my dreams follow my commands, and it makes sense that my mind makes up music as I go.

That's true. External sounds influence my dreams too. A lawnmower made a plane appear in a dream.  :D

The best moment in a dream is when you realise that you're dreaming though you don't wake up. You can do what you want, Like throwing bottles of wine across the classroom  :D

I have every sense in my dream. I can taste if I'm dreaming about eating/drinking, if in my dream I'm for example hugging my girlfriend I sense touch and of course sound, Mike Oldfield seems to be the only music in my dream music library! Yes my dreams are wonderful with his music as a background....... :)

All senses are there for me, too. I always dream in sound, color, and there is sometimes music. Once I dreamt in b & w, of pyramids in a parking lot, and still remember it. We incorporate external sounds into dreams in order to stay asleep...for me, thunderstorms, TV (if I've fallen asleep with it on) and they alter the dream's path. Sometimes I dream of eating chocolate, calorie-free....woohoo!

Several months ago I composed a song in my sleep and keep meaning to finish it. I still remember some of the lyrics and the chord progressions. It's nothing I've ever heard (to my knowledge) in waking life. Being at various concerts (various artists) is a recurring dream. My "dream" concerts include Rush, Mike Oldfield, Peter Gabriel, and some who have died. More than once I have dreamed of listening to a song, and it turns out to be playing when I wake up and turn on the radio. I just accept these things...but I'd really like to finish that song! :)

Interesting to hear of other's dream experiences, especially where music is concerned. To be able to remember some music inspired in a dream must surely be special.

I try & write down what happens in my dreams but it's very elusive and I find it's all tied up with feelings and colours and sounds a bit daft once you put words to it. I believe my dreams are my subconscious making sense of my conscious experiences, including feelings. At least I hope that's what they are!! A recurring image in my dreams is that of dark green river-like water and I have to avoid it. I can't decide if it's a good thing or not, water makes me think of a life force but why green and why am I not to go near it? And never any sound.

Like Jeremy Roberts said the best moments in a dream are the ones when you know it's a dream and you can control things a bit. For me those dreams are rare but always memorable!!

I'm off on holiday now, not to Hergest Ridge sadly, but to Cornwall and I am really looking forward to it  Maybe I'll dream some sounds there

AFAIK it's not that rare that one creates music while dreaming, even for people who have never tried to composed anything. I've heard quite a few stories. In my case I was rather surprised how unrepresentive it was regarding my compositional attempts.

I don't ever remember any background music in my dreams, after all, that doesn't occur much in real life, only movies, but I often compose songs or peices of music in my dreams, altho I can never remember them and I do have dreams with music that I love in them but I think those dreams are actually about the music, if you know what I mean.

Yesterday I had a dream about L+S. I heard the music and it was synth pad-based experimental music with strange dark mood, and didn't include much guitar and drums - it's no wonder that I didn't like it. :) Even though I've not heard anything that reminded me of Mike's style (or even Angelique or Our Father) I was sure that it was his album. I even wondered how one managed to copy it one month before the official release date. :) There were images in my head associated with the music, it was a strange experience but not uplifting at all. So I could be surprised only in a positive way now. :D
