I think Mike Oldfield achieved the Guitars Sounding Like Bagpipes sound on Tubular Bells 2003 by using his 1966 Blonde Fender Telecaster Electric Guitar once again but instead of using the Glorfindel box he plugs it into his Roland GP-8 guitar synthersiser, which contains a sample of the original distorted and compressed guitar sound of the Glorfindel box.  :)  :)

He certainly has what's been described as a glorfindel-like patch programmed into his GP-8. It's just a conventional multi-effects unit though, so it'll just be achieving the sound by means of distorting and probably EQing the guitar sound.
It's certainly a different sound to the original - more guitar-like, I'd say, less smooth and squashed.
