Well, I'm a little bit undecided about band introductions. They seem to be common only in rock shows. Have you ever seen Madonna introduce her band? No. Have you ever seen Lady GaGa or Rhianna or Kylie Minogue do it? No. And the musicians who back up boy bands are generally introduced by name only, and without even mentioning the instrument. [I saw a Take That show here, on TV, once, and towards the end they gave "a big and warm thank you for our band: guy 1, guy 2, guy 3, guy 4 and guy 5". Just their first names, all of them particularily unremarkable - stuff like Steve, John, Mark - then they all stood up, waved and sat back again at their instruments, or picked them up. And that was the "band introduction". ] Yes, the band introductions are very much typical of rock shows. The Boss Bruce Springsteen always does fantastic intros for his E Street Band, I love the crazy stories he builds about them every time. Elvis used to do some great intros as well - quiet, calm, measured, everyone being given his due and of course no-one outshining him. Nowadays, band intros mainly serve the purpose of building up the egos of band members (at least IMHO) and, in the case of Springsteen, of building his own ego as well. Regarding drum solos, I think they are absolutely great to be seen during a show and absolutely horrific to be listened to. I already expressed here my profound dislike towards the studio version of Led Zeppelin's "Moby Dick" and towards all the other live versions of that song on record - be it vinyl or CD. But I'll never get tired of watching Bonzo doing the thing over and over again, in all of his visual live performances of it on DVD.
