Hello.

A little while ago I was in quite a bad place, I'd just been fired from my job and split up with my girlfriend on pretty much the same day, leaving me pretty lonely and directionless in many ways. I figured maybe I could make the best of my new found angst and use it to write some decent music and lyrics but my motivation was at an all time low and I really couldn't be bothered.

Consequently this 20 minute improvisation happened. I plugged my electro-acoustic into a multi-effects pedal and placed the mic near the guitar (so as to pick up the effects through the speakers and the natural acoustic guitar sound). I had no idea before I started playing what I was going to play, while playing it started raining so I drew a little inspiration from that as well as whatever was floating around my head.

It's a kind of personal piece in many ways and I'm not willing to talk too much about what all the lyrics mean but some of it has musical merit and it may interest any other crazy improvisationists out there. ;)

The music is in places obviously Mike Oldfield inspired and he's my main musical inspiration for primarily instrumental pieces anyway. This is mainly instrumental with short vocal sections, apologies for those because I'm not really much of a singer.

Here's an MP3

The title of it is simply "Improv060712" (representing the date it was played). You need to give it a chance, it starts off worse than it continues. It's also an unedited improvised recording so don't expect a professional production.

Enjoy, I guess.

I guess that's the way were born some of the beautiest passages in TB, HR, Ommadawn, etc...

There are several really nice bits along the impro. Try to develop it further. ;)

Much appreciated. Thanks, Wayfarer.

I don't think I'll be picking bits out of it but if it's good enough I may at some point redo it all with many instruments and make it a single piece. It seems to flow fairly well.
