I've found out you can compress some of the most remarkable Mike's music just putting together the best in crescendos ever in all the discography.

What I mean with this poll is not selecting your favourite part, or the one you feel is better, but just the best build-up, the best in crescendo ever in his music. What I understand an in crescendo is would be just a musical section in which whatever you want to call it, the emotion, the intensity, or the tension of it accumulates to a point in which everything bursts into what we could call a musical climax or summit point.

My choice goes for QE2, not as I said because I consider it the best section, but because I consider it being the one who ranges from the lowest point to the highest. The beginning of the track is almost inaudible, while the final jig, accompanied with Phil Collins' drums and the bagpipe, plus other instruments, makes it more than enjoyable in terms of a musical build-up.

I'm more than sure the winner will end up being 'Ommadawn Part 1' finale, because everybody like it, even when I don't find it at all the favourite part of the album.

I bet as well for TB73 and 2003 finale, and maybe 'Tears of an Angel'. And maybe 'Crises' as well, with Simon Phillips' drums.

But as a build up, my vote goes for QE2. My second option, if there was one, would go for 'First Steps', from the 'Light and Shade' album. And maybe 'Hergest Ridge Part 1' as well.

When you look at the list like that - Mike is the crescendo man!

Ommadawn for me - a lot of love and emotion in that one. Crises for it's awesome empowering build up, and Hergest Ridge for it's joy - and Incantations 4 is absolutely bloody fantastic...... :D

The solo in Incantations part 3 would also qualify as a great crescendo.

I must say Amarok too. The africa climax is in 3 parts, in total over 15 minutes. It is exteremely carefully built around all the themes that the album has built up. If you already listen loud, your head will be blown away from the pure volume of the last few seconds. It is a perfect crescendo!

Who else???

@ bob the screamer: of course I agree 100%. The Africa part was meant to mimic the finale of Ommadawn part 1, but I think it's much better than that.

@ wiga: I think you might be right, I love that solo to bits, although I think it's more stable as it never changes the rythm, even when the intensity does increase. Anyway, as far as I know, the forum won't let me add any more options to the poll.

@ bob the screamer: like.

@ Ugo: at last somebody along with me that doesn't think the end of Ommadawn Part 1 is the best music piece ever!!!

Thank you for that bit of info.

On a brighter note it did give me more time to think so although I can not affect the poll I can write that the above poll does not give me the option of voting for what I would of gone for & I was torn between Amarok & Incantations part 4 yet had I cast my a vote on his finest crescendo for me it would have been INCANTATIONS LIVE PART 4 the version on the Exposed album.
