Kraftwerk

Wir fahr'n fahr'n fahr'n auf der Autobahn.
Vor uns liegt ein weites Tal,
Die Sonne scheint mit Glitzerstrahl.

Kraftwerk 1 & 2

Ouch - well, I bought both back in those days, but I haven't been desperate enough to listen to #2 for decades...

dunno if that matches the 'official' definitions of 'Krautrock', but these would be my favourites (of those I know, in no special order):
- Rock/Alternative/Melodic:
-- La Düsseldorf : Viva
-- Grobschnitt : Solar Music Live, Rockpommel's Land, Merry-Go-Round
-- Novalis : Flossenengel, Brandung
-- Jane : Live At Home

- Electronic:
-- Tangerine Dream : Tangram, Encore
-- Kraftwerk : Autobahn, Mensch_Maschine
-- Klaus Schulze: pick any, all quite the same anyway...

The best Kraut album I've heard (I haven't heard them all of course) is still Tangerine Dream's "Zeit" (1971), with Alpha Centauri (1970) a close second.
I loved that line-up with Steve Schroyder in it.

Schulze & Kraftwerk are not 'rock' IMHO. So, repeating what I said in the other similar topic, "Ende Neu" by Einstürzende Neubaten.

It's not on the poll, but I really, really, really like "NEU! '75". It's true that "NEU!" was their most influential and revolutionary album, but their third album completely knocks me every time. 'Isi' would be a solid contender for most beautiful song I ever heard and 'Hero' the most exciting.

Other nominations: Faust's self titled debut, Can's "Tago Mago" and Kraftwerk's "Ralf und Florian". Kraftwerk's output beginning from "Autobahn" feel closer to electronica than to krautrock, and my favourite Kraftwerk album is "Trans-Europa Express".

In 1979 one of the greatest German rock albums of all time was released by one of the greatest "live" German rock bands "The Scorpions". The album was "Lovedrive".
The guitar geniuses of Schenker and Jabs has to be heard!
If you were with me at the Birmingham Odeon in December '79 you'd agree!!
Keep your tongues out..... :p
