Hi there,
I have a question that is kinda related to Mike's "Tubular Bells" and it has been driving me bonkers for years.

When I was a kid in the early 80's I heard a record or cassette at my aunt's house one day. I believe it was a compilation record or something like that because I remember "I don't like Mondays" by the boomtown rats was on it. But I also remember this song that sounded sort of electronic(y), and as the the song went on, more instruments were added, and a voice stated the instrument or sounds being added. The voice sounds very much like Mike's piltman voice and I believe the last instrument added was called "Tubular Bells".
Does anybody know the song that I am referring to? Or did I dream up the whole thing?
Sorry if this question sounds a little odd, but I recently heard a sample of the Piltman voice and it sparked my interest in this mystery song again.

Any help would be appreciated.
thanks
Jenn

Sounds like an excerpt from Tubular Bells if someone actually says at the end "and Tubular Bells" Tons of MO stuff to sift through via Google and Google Video if you have the time...

That's not a strange question, Jenn;it's often asked here. The song you're seeking is definitely the well-known album 'Tubular Socks' by Mickey Oddfield. You can find it in all good record shops, like Woolworths and Zavvi. HTH. ;)

Welcome to the forums, btw. :)

Nope. little-known fact. Mike Oldfield's deranged cousin released Tubular Socks back in 1968... MO stole many of the TB melodies from Mickey. Unfortunately, like Mike, Mickey has developed an obsession with Socks and to this day has recorded at least six hundred and sixty-sixty versions of it.

I still don't get it. And it still looks like a joke.
