I used to think Bjork was overrated rubbish and that she couldn't write any decent music, that she abandoned traditional song structures because she literally couldn't write proper songs. But fairly recently I listened to her Greatest Hits streaming off the internet and went out and bought it and she is extraordinary. The sounds and textures she uses are so inconceivably unimaginable and yet exquisitely beautiful. Hyperballad and All Is Full Of Love are my favourite songs by her. What are peoples favourite albums - I can't be the only one that likes her?

Nope you're the only one I love her massively. I bought the CD single of Human Behavior after seeing the video on TV when it was released in 1993. She's a genius a real one off, almost from the same mould as Kate Bush. I was also lucky enough to see her live when she was in the Sugarcubes way back in 1988 I think it was, she came across as a complete nutcase live.

I was introduced to various musicians, most importantly Björk, Brian Eno and Robert Fripp (maybe more?), by my close friends and these artists influence my own approach to music-making -

i disliked her use of electronics and programming to start with, as i was interested in folk music - but, after having listened to her music with my friends, she really grew on me - and i am a big fan now too, i think my fave album is Vespertine, although i -adore- some of the B-sides of hers i've heard.

Björk herself is very beautiful, not sure about some of those haircuts though  :)

Hehe, that's very true (both statements). I like her music very much myself, I think she's almost a genius; still I wouldn't really call myself a fan as I only put on her stuff every once in a while. But when I do, I usually really enjoy it. To me, she's one of the very very few really great and original (pop/rock) artist to have emerged from the 90s.

i personally feel that Björk -is- a genius, especially in the way that she has created music which is both commercial and experimental

and nice to listen to once you're used to it  :)

I listened to the soundtrack of Dancer in the dark after seeing the movie. I like it (though it's a bit short). Is her other music comparable to this?

i've heard a few tracks from Dancer in the Dark - man, what a depressing film!  Me and a group of friends (or a "group of friends and -i-") started watching the DVD, but its really scary seeing our beloved Björk in that way, so we gave up and watched David Bowie videos instead - yay!

IMO, the music for DITD is different to Björk's other work in that she normally uses synths and textures more - but its similar in the way orchestra and drum programming is used.

As i say, i have only heard about 3 tracks from the CD - i prefer her other work - i get a nicer vibe off of it - its very deep and personal.  She's wonderful - and she hasn't run out of inspiration for writing great tunes either.
