I was watching kiddies tv yesterday (as i do) when blue peter came on and it seems that they have gone back to using mikes tune for the title music, but its not the same as it used to be... sounds like its been remixed, any ideas which version it is?

This reminds me - there was a Pop Music Quiz on TV a week or so ago here in the UK and one of the questions was which pop star recorded a version of the Blue Peter theme song.  It was the first time I'd heard Mike's name mentioned on TV in years!

Cool. I will see if I can catch a Blue Peter show on the BBC and listen to it.

Funny you say that, last time I heard Mike's name mentioned on the dutch TV was when Tubular Bells 2003 was released, I saw the dutch TV commercial! Too bad I only saw it once!!!  :(   :/  I wanted to record it on tape but I was too late.

Well, there are 2 versions done by Mike (but being a cover there could be someone else's version :O ). There's a topic about it in this board:
http://tubular.net/forums....;t=2593

Just to clarify some things, the (let's call it) standard version is the one included in compilations such as The Complete MO and Music Wonderland (http://users.mundivia.es/ayllonp/amadian/covers/music_wonderland.jpg) and probably is the first version he recorded. The other one also known as dutch mix appears only in a few singles and can be also found in the compilation MO's Wonderland (http://users.mundivia.es/ayllonp/amadian/covers/wonderland.jpg). IMHO this second one is a rarer version and maybe the one you have heard in this TV program.

More information on the track list of these ywo compilations here:

There is in fact 4 different versions of Blue Peter:

-The standard version > The Complete, Elements Box Set...
-The Dutch Mix > M.O.'s Music Wonderland... (See Spinne's Post))
-The version with refined ending > on some rare singles (see Rainer Münz's discography) It's the standard version with the ten last seconds/outro of the Dutch Mix.
-The BBC version > from the TV program (with drum roll at the beginning)

-There is also a version called "Goodbye version" by some fans. It's just the 20 seconds music at the end of the TV program. (And I think this one is also done by Mike)

I think the original post was refering to a new 2004 mix of the theme, that the program is now using. They used a very upbeat version for the last few years in an attempt at appealing to todays "kidz".

i haven't been able to download it as i don't have a tv tuner card in my pc, and i haven't good enough video recording (or long enough leads) to capture it from my TV.

Try keeping an eye "here" if you want to get the latest version. But I don't think it is any of mike's work.

The answer is 42 - but what is the question?
