Hi,

I've been suffering a bit from a crisis of confidence in my abilities. I'm not saying this to get sympathy or ideas... I'm saying it because I'm through it and on the other side of that imposing wall!

Here's a track that I wrote tonight, the first musical effort I've made for a few weeks.

Hope you enjoy it!

Cheers,
Terry.

Congrats, Terry... excellent!! You know how I love your piano-based music, it's even better when you add classical or orchestral instrumentation. Why don't you put out a physical CD with the best of your music? I'd be the first to order a copy!

I've got only two questions for you, just out of curiosity:

- What sort of imaginary movie scene was playing in your head while you wrote this? I'm asking you this because some sections sound to me like the soundtrack to a love scene (or a romantic scene) in a small-budgeted but extremely well-shot sentimental film. :)

- Is the piece called "Blue Waltz" because of its 'blue' mood, or because it's got some 'bluesy' inflections, or both?

Congrats again, keep on the good work!

Thanks Ugo I appreciate your compliments!

I sometimes think I cross too many genres. I've got people that like my full-blown orchestral arrangements, people that like my solo piano, people that like my "oldfield-esque" guitar/keyboard fusion... and some that don't like anything I do ;-)

As for your questions:
(1) I didn't have any cinematic movie running through my mind when I was writing it. What I did have was a sense or a feeling of a continuous perpetual cycle of music. When I listen to it now I'm quite surprised at what I did from a technical point of view. There are 6 quavers in each bar and I bring in a note from the next bar's chord on the last quaver of the bar before. This gives it a kind of flowing movement that could keep going forever. I'm rambling now... sorry!

(2) The blue refers to the fact that it's a bit sad.

Thanks again, Ugo.

Cheers,
Terry.

Re - crisis of confidence.

No need Terry. I can''t say I know what are certainties in life - but the quality of your compositions and piano playing are always pretty solid. Like the NHS, I probably take it for granted!   :)

Hi Terry

Your abilites as a musician in this piece shows that you've got over your crisis!!

I know what you mean though. I'm never too sure if I'm going to write that killer piece of music again and then, hopefully, the inspiration eventually flows.

Keep it coming!!
