I came up with this little Oldfield-ish blues-like tune and I'm going to put it in my long instrumental. It may be exactly the same it may be drastically different...I just recorded this down the way I thought it should be. And yes I'd be a liar if I said this wasn't at least a tiny bit inspired by MO :). I was fooling around with my GT-6 and FINALLY got the clean Blue Saloon sound I've always wanted!

I was half thinking of that last part of Blue Saloon before the jig part and half thinking of South Wind (second tune from Four Winds). In the end it made me think of something from Platinum or Hergest Ridge. It brought back a feeling I've lost from listening to Oldfield a long time ago that I don't feel anymore when I listen to him. Making music definitly is my favourite earthly thing of all time.

Tell me what you like and what you don't like. What may be mixed badly or comments on what was mixed well. The bass and other things gets a little distorted, I know. I've got to get a new mixer. The equilizers my current one uses are no good. Also there's a lot of bad hiss because of my ancient sound card and probably bad connections. And the high frequency sound....it may sound like a bell-like instrument, but it's actually an organ pitched high and because of that it gives a bit of tremelo effect on the attack and makes it sound more like a glockenspiel....I haven't found a way around this yet. Anyone know of any good mixing programs? Like that records in tracks and stuff...ya you know. (I don't care if I have to pay. I'm seriously wanting to go head on into this).

Interesting sound. Very volumeous. A bit too volumeous to be almost constantly present. Personnally I would consider some little rests or staccato's, to make some clear sentences in the melody. It's a bit hard to listen to, now.

Besides this and the things you mention, is it okay. :)

Yes, I think I have a problem with that. Over volumizing things...instead of playing around and mixing things together, I tend to just raise the volume on things so you can hear them better. Comes from my MOD days, I guess. There wasn't much else way to do it with MODs. I've gotta learn to mix better.

How do you like that second tune in Four Winds on Guitars (if you've heard it). Like I said, I was thinking of that and another tune while making it and it's similar in that there are less rests and staccatos etc. Maybe that in conjunction with the bad volume mixing job is conflicting with the enjoyment of the song. I will admit there's a lot in it. I was just kinda winging it, though, and it turned into the theme :).

Now that I think of it, part of the over-volumizing might be the slight reverb on the guitars.

Anyone else have any comments? I think I'm alright now with composing and I'm concentrating on mixing and quality now. Although any comments on composition as well (positive or no....preferably positive ;) ) are indeed welcome.

Ciao Brandon :)))))))))

I would like to just point out that I like it a lot :)
but now you gotta start some more theory in production/mixing/equalizing

I think you better check out a tutorial my friend blisstix has done for people using reason...though if you skip those parts which are kinda reason only there's a lot about producing, mastering and engineering

Thanks very much, Booster! That's exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for seeing as I'm looking to excel in mixing/production.
