Does anyone know if it is actually possible to buy a copy of Incantations for less than about £50? I have tried Amazon, Play and HMV but none have it. Amazon have a lot of Mike CDs for £5 each which I have been adding to my collection, but most of the CDs between Incantations to Discovery are not available.

Welcome, George S. There are plenty on ebay.co.uk (including a Japanese LP version).

Wait for the deluxe edition to come out.

Wow - bought mine at one of the local (Australia) cd stores for about $15 a couple of years back.  Not sure if they still have any in stock though.

There are mainly LPs, but I did see quite a few CDs, and quite cheap too.

Can't you order it in a music shop anymore? I need a new Incantations - part one jumps.

I was in HMV store last week. I always tidy the Mike Oldfield section, and there was only TB and Ommadawn in there, but I had to remove a rogue OMD cd out of there. Can you believe it! I knew MO fans would understand.

I can't remember the last time I bought a CD (or book) from a physical book store. It just seems so twentieth century :haughty sniff:

If I am understanding everything correctly, Universal Music Group (UMG) now own all the rights to Mikes back catalogue of material. This means that previous copies of Incantations CDs that were already made and in the shops can be sold but no new copies can be made or sold until UMG make and sell their own release. This could just be a simple duplicate of the original release but instead they seem comitted to producing the "deluxe" versions - certainly of the early albums - and having more of a fanfare of each release as they go through the back catalogue of albums in order. So I think we just have to wait for them to go through the albums and construct the new packages of CD's for them to be available again in any quantities. Digital downloads seem to continue to be made available...

Not heard anything about a release date for Incantations recently though personally I'd be surprised if it *wasn't* this year since they seemed to be working on it during last year...

ooohhh...

You make me realize that most of Mike's albums are now discontinued...I searched some stores and apart from TB, HR Ommadawn, Voyager, MOTS and TSODE, they are all gone...I did not realize what a great collection it is now to have all Mike's albums...

I searched for Incantations on Amazon.ca (Canada), and what a shock: the prices are limitless; see for yourself:

1 new from CDN$ 172.56
1 used from CDN$ 114.14
1 used from CDN$ 245.93

These prices are from sellers, as for Amazon itself the album is out of print. That's just unbelievable; a normal album price is between 15$ and 25$ CDN.

What happens if my house burns destroying all my Mike albums? Even with my assurance company paying for my CDs, I would not pay an album 100$ and more.

I guess I'll just have to copy them all and put them in a safe somewhere. I don't know.

The best deal for now I can see is this http://cgi.ebay.ca/Mike-Ol....a9d08c, but you have 7 days to bid...

Even on Ebay, there was only two choice: this deal and another one priced at...155$ CDN.

Don't forget there's more than one ebay; there's one in the UK, Australia, and America. And you can go to whichever you like; you don't have to go to the one for your own country. And I repeat: a quick glance at ebay.uk showed quite a few copies of Incantations for under $20.

Thanks for all your suggestions; I think the best thing to do would be to download it off itunes and then buy the deluxe edition when it comes out. Same goes with Platinum and QE2 as I'll probably have to wait even longer for them.

Funny I bought my Incantations LP for 6 euros (in dollars I think thats roughly the same). But part 1,2 and 4 are terrible although part 3 is fine. I have to get up every 2, 3 minutes when it loops.

Most of MO's albums are out of stock on Amazon and only available from independent sellers that charge exorbitant prices. This is something that's happening with lots of artists. Why? Because the CD is on its way out. Welcome to the digital age. :/

I just remembered: I bought Incantation 3 times in my life:

1. The old CD whit track 3 missing the beginning (74 minutes cd being the argument)

2. The old CD with track 3 including the beginning (so now there was 80 minutes CDs)

3. The new "remastered" CD with full track 3 of course.

When the remastered collection was released, I bought them all 16 again...

I thought of buying it until I discovered the great mistake in the mastering of this edition, besides Deluxe set cheaper packaging and less quality of booklet, as someone adverted. I cannot understand how Mike and Universal could have missed that.  :(

So, as in anger with both, I leave here my complain and desire of not buying anything with imperfections in the inside and outside of all three physical editions of Incantations. Hope to see a better attitude from Mike with all his fans, and if not, bye bye!

Apart of this, in the past I bought two LP pressings of this album, UK and Spain, as well as I got one of first CD copies with full track 3 and I still own them.

I don't think it's fair to blame mike for this, anything could have gone wrong with the master tape, and in the process of re-mastering a piece of music, you hear the entire album (probably) a lot of times, i think it's quite exhausting. After sending the master to universal it's pretty much out of MO's hands...
