Hello

I was wondering if there were any good camp sites within walking distance of Hergest Ridge that don't mind large parties.I went there many many years ago but we camped illegally on the ridge and there was only 2 of us then.(be more like 20 this time)

I go away each summer with a group of friends and I was going to try to talk them into going to the Ridge. I have had a look on the Internet and spotted a few but was wondering if anyone has been there done that and can give me some info.

nearest shops pubs,pubs ect   :p

any info I would truly be grateful

thanks.
Dave.

We stayed here last year & have been a couple of times before over the years. It's a very quiet little place, we had a whole field to ourselves for a few days in August which was wonderful, full moon too. There are a few holiday homes there too & it is really peaceful. Played a lot of cricket on the gentle hillside which was fun. Nearest town Presteigne has everything you'd need I guess & it's only a few miles from Kington & the Ridge. Have also stayed in a rented farm house in Gladestry years ago & was able to walk round there. The whole area is unspoilt and makes you feel very relaxed. I love it there & will one day go again, I'm sure, I can't stop myself!!

Hope this is useful anyway,

bee :)

I shall give them a call in the morning..If you see a gang of about 20 people on top of the ridge Aug the 17th I shall be the one with the acoustic guitar drunk, playing it badly and trying to sing moonlight shadow.

thank you very much.

Hi Dave there's also a campsite in Kington too seewww.mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/KTIC/KTIC/Accomodation/camping.htm

I'd also reccomend the food in The Royal Oak , and also The Burton Hotel, they both do fine real ale too   . You could maybe try the food at Penrhos Court www.penrhos.co.uk/, it's an award winning organic restaurant about a mile or so east of Kington on the A44.
As for shopping , well Kington has quite alot for a small town, trying to think what i remember , theres newsagents, a Spar shop , also a Co-op supermarket, 2 banks I think, a Post Office , hairdressers or an optician if you find yourself in  need glasses. There's a deli, 2 butchers, a petshop, useful if you've dogs, a fish and chip shop which also does kebabs, an Indian and a Chinese  takeaway/restaurant, a laundrette, a beauticians, so if ya fancy a leg wax . You could even get  a tattoo if you wanted to, yep I was surprised to find a tattooist , yep there's some local bikers, I got speaking to one of  them in The Oxford Arms. Oh yes and I can reccomend looking in Castle Hill Books , could spend ages in there browsing , and I did.  If you find yourself falling in love with the area and wanting to buy a property there there's also two estate agents
:)  :D . I fell in love with the area, but no way could I afford a property atm, it's cheaper than here (Bedfordshire) , but there is all that beautiful scenery and fresh  unpolluted air.

I'm going slightly mad,
It finally happened, I'm slightly mad , just very slightly mad

If you feel a little glum to Hergest Ridge you should come.
