Is your MO collection with your other albums? Mine aren't, as I've run out of space on my media rack. I suppose - technically - there's enough room to shove them in. But they're doing fine, in their own rack, on my computer desk.

Part of my CD collection is here...my MO's CDs mixed with my trance CDs and other stuff...I've got more, but the ones I listen more are there.

"other artists" .... " other favourites"

I'm sorry I'm not sure what you mean?

All my cd's are in boxes and the rest resides in my hard drives. If I listen to a CD, it's usually the backup mp3 I made of the original CD.  But since Windows keeps everything in alphabetical order I guess you could say Oldfield is kind of in his own area......

Tati, did you take those photos of Mike?

I'm sorry, Clotty, let me clarify what I meant:
"Some artists are separate, but MO is with the majority" = meaning you keep some albums separate from the main group, but MO is not among those.
"I keep MO with a few other favorites, but most are together" = meaning the opposite - that MO is among the select few that are kept apart from the rest.
I hope that's clearer. Maybe I should have gone with my first impulse - having "yes" and "no" and leaving it at that.

Scatterplot, although I have a lot of music on the computer, I still like to display my collections. That's my materialism showing, I think.

Actually, while we're on the subject......if you want to ease the crowding on those shelves, but more importantly, back up those expensive CD's you spent years collecting......pop 'em into your PC optical drive. Windows will give you an option to "Rip music from CD"....do it. I keep mine set to rip to 360kB/s (the max. and the default bitrate) mp3's. Then, if you only have a CD-R drive, once you have 700 Megs of backups, burn them to a blank data CDR. If you have a DVD burning drive, once you've got about 4.2 gigs, burn it. You'll be glad you did. Like, if the doggy chews up QE2 or you loan it out and your buddy never returns it, then runs off to Venezuela, there's nothing to cry about. Personally, I like to take the tracks and albumwrap them to one long CD file, then burn the folders with the individual tracks+the albumwrap CD all in the same folder named after the album.

Sweetpea
Thank you for trying to explain it to me, but I just don't understand who these other artists you're talking about are. What other CDs would I have other than those by Mike Oldfield. It's a completely alien concept to me.

Doesn't everyone else just have a shelf with Mike Oldfield CDs on it and then next to that they have a big space waiting for more Mike Oldfield CDs to be released?

;)

  I must be very slow tonight as I didn't catch on, at first. And, yes, I do have some empty space on my dedicated MO rack for future albums. It'll be good for another fifteen CDs, then I'll have to buy another rack. The fact that I counted the slots should probably go into the 'Signs That You've Been Listening to Too Much MO' thread.

Nope,it was taken by Martin Glatz from German MO Fanzine Hiawatha II,got them on the german fan meeting that happened a few hours before Mike's last gig @ Nokia Night of the Proms 2006 in Frankfurt.

Nowadays, most of my CD collection are on big boxes, waiting for a place where I can put all of them together.Dunno how many CDs I've got,I think it's around 500...

Nice thread idea. And Clotty`s "deadpan" posting style had me completely fooled there as well, heh heh.I keep my Mike Oldfield album`s seperate as well I must admit. And I guess this is the reason why I can`t really have a go at my wife for all the shoes she buys.Mike is on the shelf adjacent to the record deck there and inbetween a tin full of mp3 discs with all the Elvgren ladies on the front of it.Directly above Mike is a shelf full of all The Beatles albums along with some of their solo stuff. And then top right is reserved for XTC and some box-sets etc.The little green boxes are jammed full of mini-discs and the larger boxes are also full of cd`s.There`s also a lot of vinyl down the bottom there most of which is out of shot.Along with a couple of external hard drives which are also full of music.A lot of which I`ve since sold to make room more than anything else. The empty shelf was where my now defunkt cd recorder used to be.And is now affectionatly refered to as "the dust shelf"...In fact there all pretty much the dust shelves at the moment,I must remember to scold the housemaid over it..  :p

From TB to TMB, excluding The Complete, they're all one over another in a rack. The Complete and all the other M.O. discs are not kept together, but scattered all over my house. :D However, when I have the complete CD discography of an artist or a band (I do have several), I tend to group together all the CDs I have by the same artist/band.

I have over 2500 original CDs, about 200 CDs I burned by myself, and about 300 vinyls. No MO on vinyl, unfortunately...

I keep my music together, my favourite artists in one rack, and others nearby, Still need more storage .  I had to move my LPs and casettes into my bedroom to fit a a  proper tv stand in to fitin my lounge  to hold my 32 inch  tv. My TV I was given by a neighbour,  he had been given it and he couldn't tune it in, so it was sitting outside his flat ,the flats are  enclosed in a entrance hall so it didn't get wet.  His wife said I could have it, so for £3.20 I got a perfectly good TV, a visit to the Hitachi website I was able to download an instruction manual to tune it in (my printer packed up so it cost me £3.20 to print it off at my local library)     .   So good I outwitted my neighbour  .

My mike oldfield collection is separate, its upstairs in my bedroom. Good job Sue likes Mike, im sure she would have been puzzled by my obsession to sleep with another man otherwise!!!!!

I just couldnt bare the thought of someone breaking in and nickin my collection, yep, ive had it from my mates that this collection would scare the burglars away...what do they know? most of em are still into Howard Jones or the Thompson Twins...no style and no origionality!!

I just couldnt keep my MO stuff with my other cd's!!

Tati, it's interesting that your focus is divided between MO and trance. What is your opinion of Mike's trance pieces? I'm thinking in particular of "Lakme", which I like more every time I hear it. If you like "Lakme" too, are there any non-Mike trance pieces that you like more?

In theory, it's all alphabetical, except for the holiday stuff. The entire collection got wildly out of order during my recent move and I haven't re-organized it yet. One of my favorite record shops of old had everything arranged by record label, which I found insanely complicated in terms of finding anything.  It's pretty easy to spot the MO CDs, though. It's the largest part of the collection and the jewel cases look like they've been driven over.

Hifiguru, am I mistaken, or are your MO LPs out of chronology?

Dirk, are the plates Elvgren, too? Speaking of dust, my photo was taken after a whirlwind of cleaning and organizing.

Ratty, it's nice to think that MO's music adds an extra level of security to your household!

Inkanta, is there a particular reason why your MO cases appear to have been "driven over"? Or is it general wear and tear? I would find label order a nightmare since I don't pay attention to which record company makes what.

On my media rack, the left is DVDs. The right is CDs beginning with 'general' music for the top three shelves. Then it's 'various artists' compilations, soundtracks, spoken word, sounds of nature, "Ultra-Lounge", and custom compilations from friends. After that, there's classical and a few Playstation games. I don't know why I still have the games - I don't have a Playstation anymore. *shrug*

Most of my CDs are in a rack in the living room, the vinyl is in the bookshelf, and the CDs I rarely listen to have been relegated to boxes underneath my computer table. MO is not seperate. I don't keep CDs in any particular order either, just roughly sorting them by artist and / or genre.

Ah, I just remembered... I once sorted my CDs by spine colour, just for fun - it looked nice, and it actually worked pretty well because most of the time I knew where to look for stuff, but eventually I gave up on it simply because I tended to disregard the white section. I don't know, it's not like I don't like white, but in fact the white ones made up the largest group, and this big white spot in the CD rack just didn't look inviting at all.
