*More than a quarter-century has passed since Mike Oldfield, not yet 20, released Tubular Bells, one of those landmark albums that its composer was never going to surpass. Indeed he did not, and the success it brought him led to years of mental health problems. How nice, then, that he has pledged to donate the first two years-worth of royalties from the sale of his autobiography to the charity Sane; Changeling is due from Virgin next May.

I'd say that is going to be released in time for Mike's 54th birthday  :D

Love the charity moment from him, that's very important to help who needs mental care.

Thanks, Tati, for the info. It has been added to the news section. It is also going to be 288 pages and will contain illustrations (according to another source).

As for the date, the article says May 2007, but isn't giving a specific date. I have added it to the calendar as May 1 and will change it as necessary.

This book will be great relaxation for reading as I wait for my A-Level Results once I've finished the exams in June. I will have to listen to my entire MO Collection at the same time as well. I'll be awaiting the results with some anticipation, as I hope they are good enough for me to get into Uni...

*gasps*

Well, at least i've got something to look forward to. Thanks to Tati for alerting us all to this momentous occasion.

Where's Mike to tell us the reason for choosing that enigmatic title?

Some spanish fans are musing about by looking for info in Wikipedia(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Changeling)...

Heh---the title reminds me of Odo on Star Trek Deep Space Nine.

@ Tubularman....Wondered when someone would notice the mention of 2007/2008. :) Wasn't sure where they got that from, but thought maybe Mike's site (because they include the link), but I'm apparently search-challenged ATM.

"Changeling" would have been more appropriate for a David Bowie bio.
BTW, isn't a changeling a mythological creatures; when someone ín the village starting behaving oddly one started to suspect that the person in question had been "replaced"?

Anyway, it will be mighty interesting to read the book. Mike isn't known to talk too much about the past. I've got the feeling that he's viewing the majority of the albums in his back catalogue as absolute horseshit that Richard Branson fooled him into recording (apart from TB1, end of side 1 Ommadawn + everything after TBII). To me it's just as disappointing as when Roger Waters dismisses all Pink Floyd albums pre-Dark Side as being a pile of poo.
It will also be interesting to see how much Mike will let us know about his private life; exegesis, five-day marriages, drugs etc...
To me he's just not the kind of artist who writes a auto-biography, and therefore this will be extra exciting indeed!   :)
