I've just logged onto the 'Chat' for the first time this evening but there was no-one else there! Is this usual?

I appreciate with the time differences around the world that it may be impractical to expect a large attendance at any one time but it would be cool to chat with others from time to time.

I tend to spend a little time each evening, catching up with the day's events on the forums and I've noticed that there's a facility at the bottom of the main forum page entitled 'Who's browsing the boards?'

Is there a similar feature to show if anyone is logged onto the chat to save time logging in unecessarily? It takes two chatters to have a conversation and I can only talk to myself for so long! wink I tend to start repeating myself after a short time!

It's a shame if this facility isn't more active. I would log in occasionally in the daytime, but certain sites are blocked by firewalls at the office frown

(Apologies for this topic being shown twice - I don't how it happened but I thought it only polite to acknowledge my error! confused

The chat was a bit more active when it first got put there - it normally wasn't impossible to find someone in there if you persevered...But after a while, it got increasingly harder to find anyone, and I think a lot of people gave up or moved over to meeting on IRC.

But, if people are still checking in there occasionally, I'll try and remember to look in as well, and maybe two of us will coincide eventually...

Thanks Korgcrew - I just figured that sometimes, chat facilities need a little more publicity to work...

If one could see who was going to chat (or invite someone to chat) via 'Currently Browsing the Boards?' then success may be imminent...

I will continue to check in, in the meantime.

I'll just say that it's still working at the moment...

EDIT (a few minutes later): but I seem to have missed T4. Oh well.

It looks like the chat software has stopped working now as well...

Yes - I noticed that too when I plugged in earlier. I also found the link for IRC so, although I won't have time to chat today, I will plug in soon and hopefully catch up with some of you.

Cheers,

T4

Well, chat was working yesterday - Tim Highfield and I posted a post at exactly the same time and saw each others post come up - we went to the chat room and had a quick chat - I must say it was my first time using this chat room.

At the moment only chance meetings like that or pre-arranged ones will cause the chatroom to be occupied.

No more chat. They stopped their free service. I've removed the link.

It's a bit complicated to use, but I would suggest using IRC. Instructions at http://hjem.sol.no/~tbrauti/oldfield/chat/

I've got a really slow connection at the moment mad so the IRC link is not downloading fast enough! (Must get Broadband soon...)

Will check the link out another time and join...

Thanks for the info.
