Hey there,

Just wondered if anyone wanted to listen to my tunes.

I'm increasingly sounding more like a 1970's Oldfield! So these current tunes will eventually be replaced with what I'm working on at the moment.

There is a small sample of speech from a certain 1970's film that some of you may recognise on the tune 'mankind is the cosmos seeing itself in wonder'. I wish I could offer a prize to the first person to name that film!

The're all up on myspace, here's the link:

Hope you enjoy,

Andrew

I really enjoy your music and the video.  Went to your "other" page and had a listen to your acoustic music.   Contrasting styles but both equally good.

Hi,

Like the tunes. Love the use of echo on 'dartmeet' - which also has to be my favourite of the tracks on your page.

I've sent you a friend request on MySpace if you're wondering who Purple Rhapsody is...!

On dartmeet did you record the guitar with the echo/delay or did you apply the effect electronically after having recorded it?

Cheers,
Terry.

On this track the echo was applied live during recording, nowdays I would usually add it after.

I was talking to my wife about this at the weekend. In a couple of my more recent tracks (not available yet... still in formative stages) I've been recording the electric guitar almost completely clean and using a 'doubler' effect to add a second guitar an octave below.

A lot of musicians in the 70s used to beef up guitar parts by recording a second track an octave below the first (read some intervies and I know it was often done back then... not sure about these days though) and the guitarist often had to do horrendous numbers of 'takes' to get the notes matched with the first track... now you can do it with a simple effect.

I almost feel like it's cheating.... but it doesn't stop me doing it!

At what point does musicianship end and technological wizardry begin...? Or are they both just different sides of the same coin?

Cheers,
Terry.

That was good stuff. "Dartmeet" reminds me of Mike Oldfield's "Woodhenge", except that your track is more melodic. Very nice, I added it to my playlist.

Backwoodsman, does that mean you're on myspace? If so I'll come and check you out! Cheers for your kind words.

Ginger Daddy, tricky question, I think it depends on the individual. Gadgets and tricks and the like can inspire you as they open up new avenues. If you're inspired and exploring new stuff that's when magic happens. I've never been shy of effects and studio tricks but I am wary, if you go too far it can sound tacky. If you rely entirely on studio tricks then I think you have crossed the line. I think you can tell when there's too much studio and not enough musician and the products aren't usually too successful.

No, I'm not on myspace. But I have listened to your tune many times now and the more I listen to it the more I like it! It has a very special mood, it's wonderful.
