I'm off to the Royal Albert Hall in London this weekend to see Muse play at the Teenage Cancer Trust concert, woohoo!!, they are another of my passions, so I am really looking forward to this event, especially as I thought I 'd have no chance of going.

And I was just wondering... in the future, which venue does anyone think would be a good one for another Music of the Spheres concert? The Royal Albert Hall maybe? Naturally I would offer my back garden for an outdoor performance this summer, I'd need to mow the lawn ofcourse & I'm sure I could borrow a few extra chairs if needs be....parking might be a problem though but it has potential;)

The Frank Erwin center here in Austin. The Austin Symphony orchestra can back him up.

The Summer Back Garden tour - brilliant idea! Open air classical concerts are really nice! I'll add my garden to the tour list and suggest the ideal concert:

Part one - MotS
Interval for picnic supper ('cos that's what they do in the open air posh do's!;)
Part two - Orchestral Tubular Bells
Encore
Orchestral Medly of the best bits..well - that could go on all night!

Ahhhhhhhhhh dreams....... :D

My lounge, it's just being in a flat I haven't got a garden , I suppose I could use the communal grass areas, but I'll have a garden when I up sticks.  I'm virtually at  midway point between London and The Midlands, as I'm moving up to Warwickshire soon :)  :D , I would add Birmingham NEC or "Warwick Arts Centre in Coventry. That's a point I think the parks in Brum are council run , I wonder if Birmingham City Council hosts concerts in the parks during summer weekends, if so I would say Sarehole Mill and country park, (in the Moseley area  of Birmingham).   I've been there for a Tolkien weekend as Tolkien was from that area of  Birmingham, (or Warwickshire as it was before these boundary changes).  OH  yeah I hope I've some time to get some cash together before such an event takes place if it does, as I seem to miss such things        :( .

But do you have a balcony? The orchestra could be in the lounge; Mike and conductor on the balcony. Audience could be on the grass outside......

Music From The Balcony

I don't personally have a balcony, as I'm ground floor, but my neighbour above me does, and I'm sure he'll have no objections, as he also loves his music, and we both can get away with having it a bit loud  . He's doing a sound recording degree course. He did say that one of his exam pieces is about Mike.

So we have a couple of gardens so far, a balcony/lounge combo and a castle. We've just got to get Mike interested now... :D

The only thing is my balcony/lounge combo if you're on the balcony you won't see the musicians in the lounge, a bit difficult to conduct an orchestra.

OH yes Warwick Castle, I've been there once I think, or am I thinking of Windsor, I think I've been to both.  Warwick Castle that's another good one, except I think admission into the castle is a bit pricey, but I think the grounds are free.

This brings me onto another idea, if Mike returns to his roots in Reading there's always the ruins of Reading Abbey, or for those of you south westwards, Sailisbury Cathedral, that's a pretty impressive building, the tallest spire within England, ,or since I'm moving up that way Coventry Cahthedral, the ruins of the old one as bombed by the Luftwaffe in WW2.  Or indeed how about Hergest Ridge, but it might be a bit impractical to get instruments, musicians and chairs up there    :(  :D

wouldn't it be a dream to hear Mike play music on Hergest Ridge...I'd think I had died and gone to heaven if I could ever hear that! ahhh! ( that's a sigh btw!!;)

and your suggestions of ruins are a really good idea Moonchildhippy, I've been to Ripon and the setting is so beautiful, I could really imagine one summer's evening, glass or two of wine/beer, sun setting, the chill of the evening falling, and wonderful sounds all around, breathing life into those cold stones. The way those tall shapes define space...you could almost see the sound. What is it about hearing music outside that has such a powerful effect? It makes the experience so memorable somehow.

but Billingham BBE, where on earth is Billingham!!!

Has anyone been to the O2 arena in London, & if so is it any good, or would it be? Somehow I think he needs places with a touch of style really, so this may not be an option. Just how much difference does the venue make to the music anyway?

Of all the suggestions i would dearly love to see Mike play in Salisbury Cathedral!!!I am orginally from Salisbury and still visit at least once a year.I am deeply in love with the city and the Cathedral (done the tower six times!!!)so it would be a wonderful setting.
I was on holiday with my then wife and daughter one summer about 10 years ago and Robert Fripp was playing a solo concert the afternoon i had to leave.Grrrrrrr.The Cathedral Close is the largest in England so it could be outside too. :/

Billingham Forum man! It`s like the Hollywood Bowl of the north east of England, can`t believe you`ve never heard of it.Ice skating, swimming,Indoor bowls???You don`t get any of that carry on over at yer plain drab Hollywood bowl. The kind of multi-media all singing and dancing extavaganza Mike could put on at the forum would make Rick Wakeman green with envy.King Arthur on ice would be like an episode of Pebble Mill at One compared to anything those fine chaps from Teeside could conjour up.Hey and what do you know it`s just down the road from me by a sheer co-incedence of fate,so lets bring that shindig on pronto...

So ok there`s probablly more chance of Mike doing a gig up on Moonchildhippy`s invisible ground floor balcony,,Don`t forget to video it Moonchild and put it up on youtube for everyone to enjoy yer lucky thing.

I have to admit that i've never heard of it either. But my geography of the north is limited. To my southern brain anywhere past Birmingham is oop North.I lived in Newcastle,Staffs for 5 years and that felt like it was way up North.Sheer coincedence that it's just down thhe road then?Bit like my choices then. The Mill Banbury is 10 minutes from my flat on foot! :)

Great write up Dirk Star,
Dear bee
Billingham forum is what one may call an intimate venue, only small in comparison to the likes of The Albert Hall, but in all honesty a great place for a gig with no bad seats to be had.
If not I would like to see M O perform tmots at the Georgian Theatre in Richmond North Yorks, not only is this place as ancient as it sound's, it actually look's it  as well, a real throwback to the early day's of theatre,,,Smashin;
Oh and by the way I've been to a concert at the O2 Arena, the largest indoor venue in the UK, I along with my family went to see The War of The World's just before Christmas last year and I must say it was an experience like no other.
The sheer scale of the place is a jaw dropper 20.000 seated no problem, but being stadium shaped the top tier was high, realy high and steep to go with it, we even heard that people where asking to me moved because they were just plain scared of the look down drop.
Also during the concert Richard Burton's naration that accompanies TWOTW suffered badly from a smack back echo, but I'm sure this was down to the size of the venue itself, and the fact that they had to notch up the volume of the voice-over to get above the level of the music, the music was not affected  throughout at all. O2 DOME upper tier very high & very steep.
