It seems Mike has done a fair amount himself, although by no means everything. Therefore, there may have been slightly less financial outlay as such (although his time still costs). His team also appears not to be terribly large and they won't be hiring any huge premises anywhere...So there are some things that keep the costs down. A few years ago, when Mike started the project, he was working with a Silicon Graphics Onyx computer. Now, I don't know the pricing of the different models in that line, but I know that one of the Onyxs that the BBC bought cost them around £600,000...Hardly what I'd call bargain basement...
I'd asssume Mike's not running on a multi million dollar, or pound, budget, but I also think that, as Mike has money to spend, he's not going to be totally averse to using a bit of it, when need be...
We'll just have to wait and see to find out how much he charges for it...
