I have waited for years to source this on CD having survived on a worn and aged vinyl edition for many years. Now finally, I have found it here and what a bargain!!! It is worth the £4.99 asking price for the 10 minute plus 'Sirens' alone - brilliant Oldfield guitar work and the track itself features some beautiful female voices and one of the finest melodies I have ever heard. Of course, The Odyssey also features the blistering 'Phaeacian Games' with which many may be familiar as it appeared on Collaborations.

I notice Blah are also selling David Bedford's 'Star's End', 'The Rime of the Ancient Mariner' and 'Instructions for Angels' each at £5.99. They all feature Mike and they are all worthy additions to any collection in my opinion, especially considering the price.  :D

I bought The Rime of the Ancient Mariner a couple of months ago, because it was listed on Ebay as featuring Mike.

However, there is only about 4 minutes of the 40 worth of recognisable Oldfield music there, and I felt a bit disappointed.

Are you saying that is worth the money to buy the other Bedford-cd's ?

Personally, I think so. I think that 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner' is a fabulously atmospheric piece. I suppose much depends on whether you can tolerate discordance and atonal works. 'Star's End' is similar to 'Rime' for all that.

'The Odyssey' and 'Instructions for Angels' feature far more melody, female voices and choirs and would appeal to those who enjoy their music with more traditional structure.

Thanks. That's relevant information for me.

I can now search for those 2 CD's in the knowledge that at least they will not sound too much as the one I already have  :p .

I would never have bought another one of Bedford, were it not for your comments.

You're welcome. I'll be really interested in your opinion of them once you have had a decent opportunity to listen.

As for 'Rime' and Star's End', I only have these on vinyl at the moment but now that I have sourced them at such a knock down price, I'll probably invest in those on CD too.
